Roatan Trip in Feb 2024 with young child and grandparents.

West is best, especially when with non-divers. I have stayed at Mayan Princess a couple of times and it is good for both. All inclusive with a great pool and beach. Dive operation on the property, Mayan Divers, is very good. Not sure I would even consider Anthony's Key if with non-diver...

Jessie, long time DM on Roatan

Wow, what a loss. Great man. Unfortunately, I only have pictures where Jessie had pointed out the sea life and not of him. No better dive leader, fish finder, or all around person.

scubapro mk25 turret up or down...

I have dived my MK25 turret up for about 20 years. The dive operator who sold them to me and serviced them for most of that time set it up that way. He dives with his up. He feels it is more comfortable and allows more rotation. When I have told him about comments that it is not set up right...

Trip Report Coco View Resort trip report the week of July 17th.

2 dives? I hope that was just before lunch. I recommend you stay off he internet until you go home and focus on getting that dive count up! Have fun. Some dives have more fishlife than others. Menagerie is usually pretty fishy and watch out for squid at Calvin's Crack in the shallows (and...

Trip Report CocoView Resort May 8-15, 2021

An impressive job of capturing some of the nuances of CoCo View after your first visit. Your pictures show how this place gets the reputation as the divers summer camp (even if you don't go in summer).

    Roatan or Utila?

Harder to get to than Roatan with less variety in diving. As a dive location it will remind you of Roatan but smaller walls. Not a bad place to go, but less to see. A small chance of seeing a whale shark led me to go and I did not see one there, although I have in Roatan. Guanaja was more...

    Aqualung i770 Thoughts???

I have the i770 and find it bright and very easy to use. I use it with AI and have not had issues. The amazing thing to me is that the rechargeable battery can last for a week of diving (25 or so) with no need to recharge. I was hesitant after having a 750, but this has been a good dive...

Canon G7X Mark III - Initial Thoughts

Are Canon cameras with TTLs dead? Are strobes being replaced with high intensity LED lights? The G7 X seems like a nice choice, but it would be a pain in the ass to go back to an optical sync with strobes. Would it be reasonable to use a video light for stills with this type of camera?

    A few photos from CoCoView

Did you see the BATFISH? He is quite beautiful and lives in the CoCoView front yard.

Difference between i750tc and i770r computers

I had both and I would not recommend the 750 if it was a gift. Cannot see in bright light and the battery had to be replaced every 10 dives. The 770 has great brightness and I dove 25 dives with 75% battery life left. 770 with bluetooth downloads and computer firmware uploads.

New Aqualung Flagship Full Color Dive Computer

In case anyone has not heard, the 750TC by aqualung is horrible with poor visibility in any light and even worse battery life. The 770 does not suffer from the same issues and is what Aqualung should have put out in the first place. This field seems crowded now with Suunto and Shearwater...

New Aqualung Flagship Full Color Dive Computer

Doesn't the Teric have a rechargeable battery that is not user replaceable? I would take one of those in a heart beat. Rechargeable battery and all. Compared to Perdix it has compass. And I can wear it as a really large wrist watch year round. Having said that, I suspect the i770 would be...

Bonaire, Shore diving capital of the Caribbean?

As it turns out, my memory is fine. There was a booklet that was in all the dive shops. The entry and exit was much easier at most dive sites. And it was Bonaire. The shore diving was so bad that I have friends who don’t talk to me about the trip because I bragged about the diving and then...

Bonaire, Shore diving capital of the Caribbean?

I was reading Scuba Diving magazine's recent readers choice selections and came across Bonaire as the first place for shore diving. This used to be the case and you would have to get a pick up at the airport so you could load tanks and go diving. The dive shops had a booklet with numbers that...

New Aqualung Flagship Full Color Dive Computer

I have to say it was hard to go back to Aqua Lung after having the i750 and putting up with changing the battery every 8-10 dives and not being able to see the screen any time I got near the surface. I would have likely gone with the Shearwater Teric but the dive shop offered me almost $300 off...

Suunto Eon Core or Aqualung i770R Dive Computer

What the what? I can't tell which computer people recommended, just this intense discussion of the thing I try to avoid (deco). I agree both look good. The Aqua Lung is new and so harder to know how it holds up. I still have the taste of rushing into the i750 (God awful battery life and...

Trip Report Coco View Trip Report: July/August 2018

Headed back for my 17th week at CoCo View. It is definitely intended for divers only. The most dives for your dollar anywhere. Always see Seahorses, eels, rays, squids, toad fish but I have personally seen Batfish, nurse sharks, Whale shark, pilot whales, frog fish, among others. If you want...

    Your biggest "lessons learned"

Just like everything else in life, diving is better when you follow the Golden Rule. There is no reason not to get along with everyone on the boat, particularly if they annoy you. I have always been impressed that divers are almost all nice people out to have fun. Even the biggest air hog...
