My fiance won a 7 day cruise to the Bahamas with ports at Freeport and Nassua (grand prize at a bridal show). I have never considered a cruise before because staying on the islands or live aboard provide alot more diving for a better diving price. Since this is free, I am definitely going...
I just got back from Guadalupe yesterday. The weather was great and we saw lots of sharks on each dive. We were aboard the Nautilus Explorer which has submersible cages that drop to 40'. The submersible cages were where all the action was at. We sometimes had 4 to 5 sharks circling the...
I enjoy diving with sharks and am always looking to dive with more species when given the chance. I reference the 'Shark Watchers Handbook' for finding certain hot spots but it does not include everything. If anyone has any good destinations (ocean or aquarium dives) to see any species I...
You will love your gear! I have the Dragon BCD and LE Metal Proton 42 w/ Proton Metal Octo and they are great. The Dragon BCD is the most comfortable BCD I have worn. My fiance may get the she dives gear or possible my current setup when I get the Carbon regulators ;-)
Any problem with leaving the port extension always connected to the housing and tightening the screws down? I have no interest in using anything but my 8" dome. Would this make my setup more safe or would the O-ring eventually dry out/wear? Or I could always return it and get a better housing...

Never mind my comment. I just downloaded the instruction manual for the 8" Dome and see what your talking about. No instructions were in my box ordered from B&H Photo.
Are the port locks easy to become unlocked underwater? or is this more of just making sure its locked before entering?

I don't understand how you can just listen for the click sound? Don't you need to position the clip over the nub that sticks up and then screw the other end down?
Now I haven't put mine through any dives yet and have only played with assembling it, but I don't see how peoples port extentions/domes are falling off so easy? Mine seems to be on securely. The port extension fits into the housing snug and probably doesn't even need the port clips. The clips...
Are port locks the same for all Ikelite housings? I just got a housing for my Canon 500d with port extension and 8" dome. Is everyone concerned with the two black clips that hold on the port extension to the body? I also don't hear and noise when I put them into place. Or is mine a newer...
When I did my first ocean dive about 3 years ago, it was about an hour north of Myrtle Beach. The same day I dove a baby Great White was spotted by a fishing boat in the area. It was also spotted twice later in the week. Though not common, they can show up anywhere.
I just got a Ikelite housing for my Canon 500D. I also got the port extension and 8" dome. How would you suggest I pack this for travel? I have seen some cases that have foam inside. Is there a particular one that works best? I also think I would like to carry it on the plane with me.
Thanks
I have a Canon Powershot A620 with a Canon WP-DC90 underwater housing for sale. Both are in great condition. The housing have approximately 40-50 dives of use over 2 trips. I have the owner manual, software, camera strap, etc.. that came with the camera and housing. The images in my profile...
I would get a strobe but I have no experience using one, and the Great White trip would be my first chance (2 months away). Using a strobe when your not sure what your doing can ruin pictures as I've seen from newbies who bought top of the line setups and never shot underwater before. I guess...
Won't I get back scatter if shooting great whites and they are +8 ft away?
Will the T1i without strobe get me ALOT better than my current Powershot A620 (with internal flash)?
I am currently looking to upgrade to a SLR for both underwater and land photography. Right now all I have is a Canon A620 PowerShot.
After looking at a bunch of SLR's, I found the T1i to be in the lead of the pack for my price range (around $1000). My price range can increase if there is...
Mares is top notch. You made a good decision choosing them. They are definitely not an unknown company. From what I've seen in my experiences diving, that Mares is the most popular fin.
I have a complete Mares setup and its still working great after 125 dives.
