    Hi

Welcome to SB! Looks like you posted your incident: Rebreather - Went out of breath at the end of a dive with on a CCR

    "disposable regulators" vs servicing?

Don't get any ideas, Chris! I kind of look at Deep6, HOG and DGX as anti-establishment brands that might even make you "look cool" (to use @jellycatsdad's words). Savvy divers know what to spend their money on (I'd say quality training) and what they can save money on.

    Who to book liveaboards through?

Maybe I'm being unrealistic, but I wouldn't book a liveaboard that did not have their own website or at the very least a way to contact them directly, whether that's email or FB or whatever. You're not a real business if you don't have a presence on the interwebs.

    Captain Dons Habitat - Bonaire

I used Bonaire as an opportunity to practice my stick shift skills. I practiced at that soccer field after picking up the vehicle.

Question Valve for 100% O2 Deco Bottle

"Necessary" or not, kudos to DGX for coming up with this option. Back when I bought my Al40s from them, they weren't offering an O2-specific valve. Do you believe other valve manufacturers in the tech-oriented market will follow suit? For a long time, the only O2-specific feature available...

    Bonaire once-in-a-lifetime vacation

I hear ya. Our first Bonaire trip was our honeymoon. Although we didn't go crazy with splurging, we treated ourselves well. It was only on our second trip to Bonaire, this time with some friends, that our friends introduced us to the shabby Bonaire that we grew fond of. The great thing about...

    Bonaire once-in-a-lifetime vacation

Now that the OP has answers, at the risk of going OT I'll say I wholeheartedly agree with this. I have tried various options, but I have to admit a nostalgia for a ratty beat-up pickup truck, basic lodging with a place to cook some meals, sad-looking vegetables and meat in the old Cultimara...

Question Valve for 100% O2 Deco Bottle

Ha ha. No. But from what rjack said, it sounds like opening a valve too quickly and/or chrome on the threads, while never proven to be main causes of any accident, could plausibly be contributing factors, so it's worthwhile to use a reg that addresses those couple of issues if such a reg is...

Question The Right Dive Tanks: Autonomy vs. Tradition

You referred to these fellow divers in your original post: If you want to do the kind of diving they are doing, then follow their suggestions for an equipment and training path to get you there. From other replies here, it sounds like D12s would work nicely.

Question tank stand for doubles in garage/shed?

Sorry, I was asking about the bench, not the tank rack. (Nice tank rack, though.) I meant how wide is the bench, and are the verticals on the bench 2x4s?

Question tank stand for doubles in garage/shed?

Exactly what I was envisioning. Thanks! Is it 48 inches wide? Are the vertical members all 2x4s?

Question Valve for 100% O2 Deco Bottle

So, in your opinion, take every reasonable measure that could plausibly improve O2 safety? Don't read this as me doubting what you said--my diving philosophy is indeed to take every reasonable measure to stack the safety odds in my favor. If switching my O2 bottles' valves out for DGX O2 Pros...

Question tank stand for doubles in garage/shed?

I just built a shed to store dive gear and everything else that would normally go in a garage except I don't have a garage. I want to build a stand so I can walk the doubles from my vehicle and just sit down on the bench, doff them, and leave them there upright. So the stand is basically a...

    Hello everyone,

Welcome to SB, Tim! I only tried LBTS once, and I didn't have the best experience. But those who are familiar with it seem to find its charms. That's great that it's local enough for you to shore dive often. I hope your camera is found.

Question Do you prefer someone help you set up your gear, or do you prefer setting up by yourself?

"Your life depends on your diving gear" seems very much like an attitude many of us on SB and those like us (that is, dive nerds) have. My interpretation of the original question was that it was not referring to tech or cave diving gear but rather to the typical BC (maybe BP/W), regulator, and...

Question Do you prefer someone help you set up your gear, or do you prefer setting up by yourself?

From the replies so far, I am getting the impression most of us prefer to set up our own gear. I wonder if we are seeing another example of SB'ers not representing the typical diver worldwide.

Question Do you prefer someone help you set up your gear, or do you prefer setting up by yourself?

At dive resorts and on liveaboards it seems there is almost no polite way to avoid letting the staff do what they perceive as part of their job. Often, it involves them taking my gear from the dock or gear room onto the boat, and that part of it is kind of nice. I used to demand they let me...

Question Valve for 100% O2 Deco Bottle

I know--I've seen you mention this before. But was the main cause of any of these incidents "opening the valve too quickly" or the fact that the threads were chromed? I would guess that opening the valve quickly could be a contributing factor, but something else was likely the main factor...
