I do not like the name Mortuary Beach either. Monastery on a calm day is a very relaxing dive, very minimal surface swimming unless you like long surface swims.
Ken, congrats for your son getting certified. That pin is too far, some call it Wedding Rock. Very nice but rarely calm. The arrow indicated was the entrance
Sunday12, dove north of north Monastery wall. Did a bit of a hike to south of Carmel Meadows but almost zero surface swim once fins where on.
20'vis in the shallows. Kept going west and 10 degrees to the left till the single metridium came to view at 37'. There the vis opened up to 45'. The...
Got to North Monastery this Sunday morning about 11:00 am. Took a look at the conditions and it looked a bit rough. My understanding was that it was supposed to be NW 3' swell with about 8 seconds interval. Divers were reporting 40'vis or more the day before. Waited about half an hour and the...
If today was any indication of great vis for tomorrow, do go and dive. North Monastery was foggy top side most of the day. Vis underwater on the other hand was epic especially under the kelp. There were many divers underwater. A few divers thought vis was 40' and one said around 40'-50'vis. Vis...
Sunday NWN wind 14kt. Mostly sunny. Mixed swell..NW 6 ft at 12 seconds and SSW 1 ft at 12 seconds. wind waves 1 to 2 ft.
Texted that to MikeXYZ and he said that that looks good. So we went and did two dives at North Monastery. We walked in and out for both dives. Vis was about the same for both...

Good thing Monastery was calm. I have had night dives with way better vis. Two memorable parts of the dive: first, was when I almost ran into a lincod with my face and the other one when the surge kinda forced us to the surface to see a very grand view of the North Monastery wash rock really...
