Packed and ready to go! Definitely diving with DwM, paid my deposit and almost time to check in for my flights!

    Going Iberostar Week Before Christmas

So, looks like my luck is changing and the southern reefs may be open while I'm there.

    Possible southern reef closure

So, if reefs with no diver contact are also dead, it wasn't divers that caused it.

To me, it seems like they should be able to locate on satellite some coral that isn't frequented by divers and see if it has the disease. For instance, are the corals north of the Island that the northern operations have discovered healthy?

    Possible southern reef closure

I dove two tanks on Isla Mujeres last Christmas. Their big attraction they hyped at the resort we stayed at was the concrete sculptures of a few VW bugs and a lot of statues cast from people. The coral wasn't that plentiful and the fish life was not as abundant as my two previous trips to...

    Possible southern reef closure

I don't think anyone is claiming cruise ships are the only cause but they are things we have personal experience with that are also thought to be impacting Cozumel

Evolution, it solves all problems and things work out for everyone... unless you are the problem.

    Possible southern reef closure

Having taken a cruise or two, I know that the ships regularly cruise both the Pacific Northwest in summer and do a repositioning cruise through the Panama Canal for Carribean cruising during the winter. There are also ships that cruise the Mediterranean/North Atlantic during the summer and do...

I agreed with you until you went political. That has no place in this thread.

    December 2019 Roll Call

Is it too early to start a December thread? My family of three (two divers) will be at the Iberostar the week of the 14th. Still undecided on Dressel or DwM. Other SB members might influence that decision.

    Possible southern reef closure

Well, this is a bit distressing. I'm booked into the Iberostar in mid-December for some diving with my daughter. This will be my third trip to Coz/Iberostar. I know we will have fun and it won't be a total loss but having known this last month we might have opted for a different location...

    Going Iberostar Week Before Christmas

What's a reasonable price to pay for Enriched Gas cert? Dressel has free Nitrox and I'm thinking of taking advantage of it since you can do most of it online. Also, where's the best spot or do it on-site?

    Going Iberostar Week Before Christmas

I've never had an issue with DwM and have enjoyed the dives. I would not be happy with a 40 minute dive either. Paddi with DwM was the one that told me there would be a $3.50 per person per day charge for dock pick up.

    Going Iberostar Week Before Christmas

Yes, I've used DwM on my previous trips but vacation is about less hassle and easier. Dressel may cost me more but at this point in my life I don't have to have the absolute lowest price any more. I do like supporting the smaller business against the corporate types when I can.

I'm feeling pretty lazy and may just do Dressel for the fact they leave later. Hopefully things won't be too stirred up and vis will be decent.

It was Paddi from Dive with Martin that stated that and the $3.00 plus tax ($3.50) per person per day pickup at the Iberostar dock.

Yes, she is the scheduling person in the US that handles their bookings. They didn't say who collects.

Just heard back from Paddi Davies and there is a $3.50 per person per day charge for picking up at Iberostar dock and no water picks allowed.
