    Storing your gear

I guess I never even thought about this, I keep all my dive gear in the garage. Everything with the exception of my drysuit and my active reg set in rubbermaid containers. The drysuit I hang, the regulators I leave connected (obviously not presurized) to whatever tank I intend to use next. I did...

    Buying scuba gear to last

You should figure out how much it costs to fill doubles with trimix, plus the associated deco bottles. Tech diving is expensive, the certs are expensive, the gear is expensive and the dives are expensive, $300 for a dedicated doubles wing later is a drop in the bucket. There is certainly gear...

    Buying scuba gear to last

The important part about buying gear to last is understanding the sort of diving you will be doing, and more often than not that changes when you dive regularly. I own an atomic B2, it's a fine piece of gear (though I usually dive my Apex reg), but there are a lot of other cheaper regulators...

Headaches, nausea, vomiting upon surfacing, NOT seasickness!

I'm not a doctor, To me it sounds like it's some sort of obstruction in your sinuses. It could just be narrow sinus passage ways getting blocked or it could be something in the sinuses. Either way I'd be tempted to go see an ENT specialist.

    When to replace drysuit seals

If they're cracked they probably need to be replaced. I replace mine when they leak, they rarely get to the point when they "wear out".

To go to doubles or not.

I started in doubles at maybe 75 dives, at the time, I was gravitating towards tech. I recently broke my last pair down, I just don't do dives that need them, they're heavy and inconvenient if your'e not doing dives that use them.

    Dry Gloves

I wear fleece liners under both the smurf blue gloves with the DC rings and the neoprene DUI Zip gloves. They're adequate for all the diving I've done. Most of my diving is in the low 50's, though I did a fair amount of freshwater diving in the low 40's when I lived in CA with the same protection.

What skills did your instructor model?

My instructor discussed trim and bouyancy and spent additional time on the latter in each of the pool sessions. Having said that he had no expectation of anyone in the class being able to display either, during the class. I didn't see what good trim and bouyancy control were until after I...

help with picking a bp w/ wing

There isn't very much difference is plates outside of material, it largely comes down to how much weight you want on your back. My FredT SS plate is about 6lbs, my Halcyon AL one is closer to 2lbs. Wings vary, I'd personally go with a circular wing, they are easier to dump air from, again...

Accidents and Incidents:What mistakes have you made?

I've panicked underwater, I had proabably 20 or so dives under my belt at the time, there is a discussion about the incident on the board. I've walked 200 yards with doubles, and carrying a scooter, only to realize that I left my fins in the car. The funniest part is my buddy also forgot his...

Mask clearing-finding out the hard way

I think it's important to understand why mask clearing and mask removal and replacement are important skills. If you dive long enough, your mask will get knocked off. You don't get to choose how or howfast the water hits your face, it just does. These types of tips are fine for getting a C...

    tips for finding dive buddies

I found most of my regular buddies right here on Scubaboard. I hated imposing on people aswell, but there are people who don't mind mentoring inexperienced divers. Just be honest about your experience when you go dive with someone for the first time.

    Diving tables

I don't think I've ever even looked at tables since Dive 9 or 10. I had a computer shortly after getting my C card, and I used that for a couple of dives, but my first regular dive buddy was GUE trained, and I've been using various approximations since before I took my Fundies class at about 30...

    DPV Wish list

To me at least assuming it has a reasonable burn time, and it's comfortable, it comes down to primarilly power and weight, in addition I'd like to be able to trim it while it's neutral, but it's secondary. I own Mako, I bought used 3 or 4 years ago. I actually use it infrequently, because I...

    DUI Rock Boot Fins

I used XL Jets with Size 10 rockboots for years, turtles are a better fit, but you can get just about get away with the XL Jets. I just replaced my XL Jets with XL Hollis F1 Fins, and the pocket on the F1's is also a much better fit than the Jets.

    Any feedback on USIA drysuits??

I have one, I dislike it, in fact I disliked it so much I spent $2000 on a custom DUI suit with less than 30 dives on the USIA. The reason I dislike it so much is the way it's cut. The legs and arms are cut very wide, and that means it's harder to manage the air bubble. For me at least the suit...

Dry Suit Problem what to do?

In your case it could have been a stuck valve, just as easilly as the undergarment, filling the suit with air in the surface could have been enough to unstick it. As to the Weezle, IMO the Weezle likes to take on air, which is why they are so warm, but the air doesn't like to come out of the...

Dry Suit Problem what to do?

My experience with my weezle is air migrates very slowly through the suit, my TLS is custom cut and pretty tight with the Weezle on. I find I have to work extremly proactively to stay ahead of the suit, especially the last bit of air. My exhaust valve is on my forearm, so I can see it vent, and...

    Apex Dump Valve leak

My apex valve leaked neither I nor my LDS at the time could remove it, I ended up having to send the suit back to DUI to have it replaced. Having said that they are simple enough, if you can get it off the suit it'll probably be obvious what the issue is.

Yet another Neo vs Trilam thread

My 2c I wouldn't own a compressed Neo suit, not because they don't work or don't dive well, purely for convenience, they take too long to dry and weigh a lot when wet. I have rear and front entry drysuits, I can don either on my own, but it's a lot easier t don the front entry suit. You'll...
