Took a dry suit for a test dive today

I had a great time 2 weeks ago at the DUI Demo Day here in MA! I got to dive a TLS350 w/ dry gloves and rock boots and realized that I *really* like the configuration.... Damn.... now I just need some $$.....

    Foot in mouth...

So.... I myself happen to work for another venerable Boston educational landmark.. My big question is...... What does it take to get to the dive in the big tank at the NE Aquarium?!? :)

What's not acceptable for OW training?

Actually, I remember back when at least here in MA, you either had a regular "full" driver's license (i.e. manual transmission) or you had an "automatic license" which means you had a special restriction on your license to only drive automatics.. Granted I was too young back then to drive, but...

    Lake Champlain Diving

Hmmm... My wife grew up in Middlebury and Vergennes and both she and other friends I have up in the area all seem to always talk about how polluted the Lake is due to the mills that contaminated the place for years. Have there been any water-quality studies?? Not sure I'd want to put my...

Keeping four short lobsters cost a Berlin man $800.

Getting caught with shorts is bad, but getting caught with a ripe female, overflowing with eggs is far worse... Before last summer I had never grabbed a berried female so I wasn't sure if I'd notice the sac and I worried about missing it and getting into trouble. Then I finally grabbed one...

    Embarrassing and/or clever diving stories.

My own embarassing story happened last summer at a dive that I had been waiting for for some time because it was a new spot for me and was to be the first day of a lobster catching tournament of sorts. I was pumped on the hour-long drive to the site and couldn't wait to gear up and jump in...

    Embarrassing and/or clever diving stories.

Seems pretty hard, but it does happen oddly enough....... Last summer at a local dive spot, this guy and his friend (who had never dove with the regulars from the shop most of us were meeting up with) show up for a shore dive but one guy (the one who drove) forgot all his rental gear AT...

    Keeping EFR current?

I took EFR back in March '07 and completed Rescue last August, but I definitely plan on taking EFR every couple years to keep it current as long as I'm actively diving... I see it as a responsibility to those I may dive with that my EFR skills are as sharp as possible, same with Rescue...

Well, THIS is going to slow down my diving for a while

Hey Guba, Glad to see all went well!! I had an emergency gall bladder removal last May and they were barely able to get it out laproscopically as it had tripled in size due to the infection. However, I went diving 12 days after the surgery and I felt 100% fine the whole time. When I...

First time shopping at the LDS. I didn't do well, lesson learned.

Rainer.... what is your deal? You talk about how it's not nice to play games w/ brick & mortar stores and "use" them for fit and information, then buy on-line. But then you mention how everyone should arm themselves with information on-line PRIOR to shopping at a shop and if the shop isn't...

Woo Hoo! 16 dives in 4 days!!

Fantastic! I'll be heading to St. Croix at the end of this July and just booked all my dives (16 dives over 4 days spanning morning, afternoons, and a couple night dives). I can't wait!! Apologies... Just had to vent my elation.... But I'm still bummed about what to do on my last day...

    Questions about St. Croix

I just found out from the folks at Cane Bay that "Off the Wall" is only open for lunch (maybe dinner?) but not breakfast anymore.... (new owners I think) I'll be sure to stop by and check them out, but I really miss having a classic "diner" style breakfast right on the beach first thing in...

    Shore diving St. Croix

People swim out to Northstar from the shore? Eeeek... I dove there a couple years ago from a boat and it was a great dive, but no thanks for the shore swim!

    Questions about St. Croix

Oh? Is Off The Wall back in business?! That was a great spot for breakfast on the beach a few years back and I was sad to see it closed down 2 years ago on my last visit.....

    Belize Nekton Pilot: Crewmember lost

I'm saddened by the loss of any diver, but certainly no fault can be placed on the local authorities as to their response time..... The principal burden on our sport is on ourselves for engaging in this activity to begin with... Can the drowning then be blamed on the Coast Guard for not having...

    Scuba Santa

Nothing scuba related (but that's ok... no one in my family really "gets" scuba, although they are all supportive of it as they know I enjoy it). My wife did get me a great new digital camera (however, w/ no existing housing for it) and some nice non-scuba exposure protection from my mom...

Any tips for January Drysuit Course?

I'm going to be taking a drysuit course as well in January. Should be fun, albeit a bit cold. What part of the world are you in? Here in New England, the OW should be in the 40's (f) - I think... I've got a pool session first around the 7th and then 2 OW dives a couple weeks later...
