    TSandM -- Lynne Flaherty

I was temporarily sidelined from diving, and hadn't actually read anything on SB for almost two years. So, I'm just now finding out about Lynne's passing. I'm extraordinarily saddened to see this thread just now... I always enjoyed Lynne's contributions, and her obvious enthusiasm for what she...

Advice to new divers: Never buy a integrated VELCRO only BCD

But, they * did * invent the design that relied on it solely to support lead weight with no backup fastener. Not safer, perhaps, however, I've always found integrated easier to use, at least for the Zeagles, ScubaPros, and TransPacs that I've owned, for multiple reasons. But, that's simply a...

    Aqua Lung Dimension i3

I've owned: Zeagle Escape (standard BC); DiveRite Transpac (with a Venture wing); Aqualung Dimension i3; Hollis SMS100 Sidemount; Standard SS BP, and 32lb. OMS wing. I *still* have the Zeagle (for travel -- obsolete model, but *still* excellent); Dimension i3 (for local/drive-able...

    Mike Degruy

Thoroughly enjoyed Mike's down-to-earth, non-sensationalized, accurately portrayed documentaries, and his obvious love for diving and all things aquatic. Rest in Peace, Mike...

    Why the push for i3?

I'm coming up on 500 lifetime dives, mostly on a Zeagle (standard back inflate, now my travel BC) and TransPac (harness and donut wing)... a few, since last year, with a new Hollis SMS100 (I've gotten into side-mount), and about 40 on the Dimension i3 (my local diving grab and go fun rig). My...

New Go Pro HD Hero UW Video Cameras

I second the SRP BlurFix... specifically w/ the CYAN lens (for blue water diving). The difference in clarity is remarkable, as well as the improvement in color correction...

Scuba Shack's Boat Get Wet Sinks in Key Largo

First I'm hearing about this (and have no idea where I could've been for two weeks). I dove with KLSS a few months ago -- and we were out on the 'Get Wet.' It was an extremely positive experience (and I believe I did a trip report on the board somewhere), so this incident creates quite a few...

What are YOUR hose lengths and why?

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but that's my opinion for the long-hose MiFlex. Anything less than 38" and I'm there with MiFlex. However, greater than that length and it seems to have very strange torsion properties -- perhaps due to the external braiding... don't know. And, this all...

What are YOUR hose lengths and why?

Sounds good... so, perhaps I'll see you there late spring... I'm with you on going back to rubber on the sidemount configuration, except for the left bottle reg hose. I find the MiFlex tends to stay put better when charged. However, the original 5' MiFlex I bought for the right bottle was an...

What are YOUR hose lengths and why?

No, haven't dove it back mount, yet, however, since I plan on taking it on a few remote trips, I'll be testing that this spring. Of course, it only accommodates a single tank in back mount, however, the transition is almost too simple: the included cam bands slide through pre-slotted positions...

Note to Self... STOP Losing Gear!!

Never lost anything... Although I watched my wife/buddy toss some gear off the deck of the Spiegel, so she could watch it float down... that was on a dive she insisted she wasn't narced... The $100 backup light she tossed, that we didn't retrieve, wasn't ours... so I figure my non-loss record...

Add swivel to Atomic Z2? Other ways to reduce jaw fatigue?

+1 for the MiFlex hoses. I took the swivel hoses OFF both my B2's, and the MiFlex works much better. It stays flexible when charged, unlike the Atomic swivel, and reduces jaw fatigue. I have 90-degree swivels for my sidemount rig, with around the neck routing, but haven't found them necessary...

Weighting change from AL80 to HP100

Good point... and, of course you're right. Love going off on a thought using the wrong parameters, considering how many times I've done the 500psi weighting with different tanks/gear. Difference (for me, and using the same tanks), still came out to ~7lbs. (4.2+ vs. 2.5-).

Weighting change from AL80 to HP100

Depends on your tanks, both AL and Steel. Most of the rental Al80's I happen to run into are Catalina at 1.6-1.8 negative full. I own Worthington (XSScuba) X7-100 Steels, which are 10 negative full (*ASSUMING* you get a full 3442psi fill!. You will often get a 3000psi fill on your own...

    Using Surface Marker Buoys

Every boat and shore dive (aka every ocean dive). Based on the results of the poll, you'd think it'd be tough to find someone *not* carrying one. However, that's not been my experience on most of the boat dives I've been on -- most either have it tucked away out of sight...completely, or...

    Dimension i3

It's a great BC, but you can't do doubles with it. If you want to do doubles, you need to decide what kind of doubles (back or sidemount), and if you want to use the same BC for that and singles. That being said, welcome to the moneypit...

My Head is Spinning! Need Help Picking A Regulator!!!

+whatever for the Atomic... I have 2 x B2's, and have had nothing but success with them... As for the cost of service, keep in mind that Atomic recommends service only once every *two* years (which effectively cuts your annual cost in half)...
