    Dive Flag Law Again!!

I guess. When I drop into the water from Boston to north side of Cape Ann, I cant tell where I am. I don't look around underwater and say "this feels like Cape Ann". But if you can tell the differance, then I see your point.

    Dive Flag Law Again!!

Why would you dive in a such a diver unfriendly town? They don't want divers. Fine, don't dive there. Don't buy lunch there, don't get gas, don't get your kids a little knick knack in their stores, when your parents come to town to visit, take them to Charlestown and skip Cape Ann entirely...

    Dive Flag Law Again!!

Most lobster pots are id'd. Look at the plastic insert that fits the escape hatch.

    Discovery sharkweek crazyness, riding sharks?

There are two groups of people, the producers who produce individual shows, and the content manager who decides which shows go on when. The content manager is just trying to crank up the ratings, bless his/her little heart.

I Still Feel Like I'm On The Boat

A: Nope. My land sickness usually only lasts one day at the most.

I Still Feel Like I'm On The Boat

Happens to me a lot. It happens more earlier in the season, so maybe I am getting used to it. :) AND I need to spend more time on the boat for it to happen. Used to happen after a day on the boat, then it took two days, now it takes a full weekend including an over nighter.

    What went wrong

so you were diving in a hot tub? (said the guy from New England) :rofl3: Well, for ME that would be pretty warm and I would think that it was atrophied skills.

    What went wrong

I think that the almost 2 months was plenty for your new skills to atrophy. They are new skills after all. I am not familiar with Dutch Springs, what was the water temp? If the water was colder than the pool that could have been a factor as well.

Why I should Not be Solo Diving?

Couldnt read the ENTIRE thread, too long. :) But here's my input as a noob. For the last year on this board I have heard: "Don't Panic" "You Don't Know What You Don't Know" "Follow Procedure" Yeah yeah yeah, I hear, and I agree. Then last week, dive #27........ Standing on the swim...

    Drinking and Diving

I think that you could credibly argue that a single beer during a dive day is "ok." Having said that..... I dont drink at all until I am done diving for the day. Why risk it? I KNOW that one beer impacts my decision making, yeah its minor, but its there. As for the paper cited above, I...

    Your favorite dive spots

All boat dives: Satan Rock - 42-30'37"N 070-48'02"W Good lobstering, interesting and varied bottom Halfway rock is about 1 nautical W-SW of Satans, I have only been to Halfway once and it was miserable. I missed the tide and the current was too strong. I THINK its probably a good dive...

    Dive buddy or so

We dive off my boat that resides in Beverly. We go out MOST (but not all) weekends. If you want to, you can come out with us some time, see if you like the crew and see if you want to dive with us more. If you DO, we can find storage on my boat, I got plenty. :) That assumes that we all...

    bubble diverter?

My ears are FANTASTIC!! :D Yeah, someone else said that my hood might be loose, I guess it could be. Its my first hood, how do I know if its too loose? I mean other than the bubble trouble.....

    Do you wear a snorkel?

I missed all the other debates... I dont wear one, and it bugs me to no end. SO, why dont I wear one? Wearing one bugs me to no end.... I just cant win.

Is there such a thing as under water GPS?

oh. much better idea. Never mind then....

Is there such a thing as under water GPS?

I read somwhere about a dood putting a GPS in a dry bag and running an antenna to his marker. As I recall it was theoretical, but it COULD work if you kept the GPS dry and you could extend the antenna that far.... I prefer a reel. :)

    bubble diverter?

Nope. Definitly coming from my reg. I can turn my head and it goes away. Also, when I breath out my nose I can feel my mask leave my face, and that isnt happening, AND when I exhale out my nose it fogs my mask. :)

    "Proper" use of a reel

I use a reel on almost every dive. Here in the Greater Boston area the vis is pretty low 5'-15'), so I tie off the anchor so that I can find my way home. :) I have been told that its lazy, I should practice my nav skills; probably true, but MAN does it take a load off of my mind knowing that...

    bubble diverter?

Excellent. Thanks for the reply! Your thorough answer gave me some keywords to google on. :D I came up with the mistral http://www.aqualung.com/products/mistral_ltd.html looks like it may solve my problem. I don't mind buying new (or used) because my 19 year old wants to dive, so I can...
