Linblad Expeditions Easter Island to Papeete, Tahiti

This is sort of a "dream" trip in the works for us. We've been wanting to figure out a way to get out to Easter Island to see the Moai statues since half past forever and I just hit on this cruise. We've never traveled with Linblad before and all I know about them is that they are somehow...

    Ear Problems

If you think that you have an actual ear infection, you need to go see your doctor. Nothing you can buy OTC or cook up at home will clear up a bad case of otitis externa (swimmer's ear) and it will only continue to get worse as time goes by. Symptoms of such an infection would be... pain...

    Diving from Cruise Turks/Nassau

Wow! :D If that's the way it works, we might have to rethink our preconceived notions a bit. We've stayed away from cruising places that we'd want to dive solely for this reason and now you're making me think it might not have been as bad as we'd guessed it would have been. One way or...

    Diving from Cruise Turks/Nassau

I can't say that we've ever tried to combine our cruising with our diving, but if you do, be super careful. If you use the cruise ship's dive excursions you're going to be stuck on a cattle boat and be likely to have a miserable time, but if you don't and your outside contractor is late, the...

    An earned OW

Congratulations and kudos to your instructor for not setting you free before your time. My prayers are with you and all of Israel during these scary and troubled times. Hopefully, the IDF will bring a decisive end to this and soon. And as far as being that close to the Red Sea....Lucky! :D

What is the oddest thing you've found on the bottom of the ocean?

No kidding...that would have paid two months of rent for me and was probably what she was going to use to pay the guys to oil the teak decks on that boat or to get a massage or something. Who knows? I should have been stuffing bills in my bikini top! The boat was called the "Overdraft"...

What is the oddest thing you've found on the bottom of the ocean?

A while back, a woman on a boat in the Boca Raton Resort and Club Marina dropped an envelope with $1000 in cash into the water. The harbormaster radioed me at the pool to see if I could find it. There were 50 dollar bills floating around everywhere under that boat and I found every last one...

Whatever happened to Coral Reef Scuba in Coral Springs?

Wow...gone in '02! Goes to show how long I've been out of town. I imagine everybody I know has scattered to the four winds and then some by now. Thanks again for the info.

Free air fills? How many shops offer this?

Shops around here charge between $4 and $6 as well. On the other hand, if you get super friendly with the staff and know your way around the compressor sometimes you can sneak in and fill your own tanks for free. :)

    Cousteau rides a great white

I am so jealous!!!! Not to mention that if I was ever actually that lucky, it wouldn't last long enough to keep me from becoming lunch. But dang that was cool.

Whatever happened to Coral Reef Scuba in Coral Springs?

Hey Sandbar... Thanks for the head's up. I taught at Coral Reef back in 1990/91 and haven't been back since I left Florida for Texas. We were getting ready to head out that way and I was curious to see if anybody I knew was still around. I guess I've been stuck in Texas way too long! :(

    Teenage diver quandary

If your son really, desperately wanted to dive, he'd be driving you nuts about it - just like they do about everything else they want to do...staying out past curfew, getting a car, and so forth. When the bug bit me, my LDS couldn't get rid of me. My parents only paid for my OW class and my...

Whatever happened to Coral Reef Scuba in Coral Springs?

I haven't been back in town in half past forever and just tried to look up my old shop on the net. I found a listing for it, but no website and the phone # is disconnected. I was wondering if any of you locals knew how long they'd been gone and who (if anybody) replaced them.

What c-card do you show on vacation?

H2Andy... While the article doesn't apply to diving situations specifically, I think that there is a possibility that the case law might. But then again, I sure ain't no attorney! :D They are only talking about Texas, so who knows what other states are doing... this was also 5 or so years ago...

What are the travel scuba essentials

All my gear except tanks and weights unless we're driving somewhere and then we bring those too. I also bring a backup mask, reg, and LOTS of bits and pieces along with the ever important tie wraps and duct tape. I'd rather wear the same moldy clothes for a week than pack light on the gear end!

What c-card do you show on vacation?

An interesting article on this topic... http://www.insurancejournal.com/magazines/southcentral/2001/02/05/legalbeat/22351.htm When I was teaching PADI medic first aid classes, I used to tell my students not to be afraid to try to use what they had learned in class. Even if they weren't...
