    European Divers!

Hi Sorry it took so long to get back to you. One of my friends had pointed out a Italian dive board to me a while back. When I asked her for the details again she couldn't remember the site. She has passed on some links to general dive web-sites, if you want them PM me. Sorry I...

    European Divers!

There are a couple of Italian boards as well, so if you have half decent Italian, you coul post there and get some answers from the locals, or at least find some new buddies to dive with. I have some friends who dive, who are based in Milan, Genoa and Rome, I could get the details of the...

    purchase a stinger

I know Maltaqua stock stingers, as do strand (both in St Pauls). It may be cheaper to by from the UK and have it shipped over....now you guys are in the UK you will unfortunately have to pay the tax, but it may still be cheaper in the shops in Malta. Conor

    European Divers!

You are making me jealous....I spent two weeks on Bear Island watching other people dive and not diving myself. My parents live in Cork now so I'm hoping to get over there to dive one of these days.

    European Divers!

Merissa, depends where you are stopping off en route, if you can split your journey in London then you can get cheap flights to nearly anywhere in the Med and even the red sea. I would say it depends on the amount/type of activity you want when not diving, i.e. culture v night life etc. How's...

Dry suit course in the UK

Hope you managed to get in the water. As you said yourself a lot of us 'warm water' divers have experienced cold, poor vis etc on our travels, so as long as we (like all divers) dive within our skills and expereince then all will be cool. I'm in the same boat to an extent, have managed a...

    Red Sea on a budget?

Erm....there is no wreck diving in Dahab and it is not 1000's of divers...its very mellow (in fact is my new definition of mellow), the reefs around there are famous for there quality and beauty. Sorry but it begs the questions....have you been? If so did we go to the same Dahab?

    Woman alone--Sharm or MarsaAlam?

Hi We did get a little of track didn't we ? I haven't been to MA, but from what I've heard of it from friends there are two types of holidays available, one is the big hotels chains in which case it is like sharm, the other is the eco-lodges like Marsa Shagra etc where you would find the...

    Woman alone--Sharm or MarsaAlam?

The Middle East is a big place, taking in quite a few countries, most of which are very safe for western travellers. But, don't worry about it, when people in Europe say America is a dangerous place to visit, they are normally forgetting Canada, Mexico, Brazil, argentiina etc :)

    Woman alone--Sharm or MarsaAlam?

Just to agree with Belushi, I sepnt 4 weeks last year in Dahab, Sharm and Taba, there is nothing for anyone to be nervous about. I was in Dahab for half of GWII and even then there wasn't a bad word said to anyone, in fact I didn't hear anymention of it until the airport on the way home.

    Woman alone--Sharm or MarsaAlam?

Have to agree with all that has been said so far, personally I would go for Dahab as there are a lot of backpacker style places and its a bit more laid back and friendly. Sharm is a bit more like a med resort, more bars etc big hotels but still fun. Enjoy which ever you choose Conor

    Not serious but a pain

There can be a bit of bravado about air consumption...where everyone starts comparing guages after a dive. Personally, my advice would be not to worry about it too much at this stage (you can always get a bigger cylinder). Focus on increasing your comfort, Getting your buoyancy/trim sorted out...

    PADI cards

I guess he means the PADI pic envelope cost which I'm sure you are passing on to your students :), otherwise I'll do all my training with you :) I have been offered courses before without getting the cert card and the discount was the cost of the pic.

    Red Sea on a budget?

Look at the travel section of www.divernet.com for real last minute bargains from the UK, covers most UK agents travelling to most Egypt destinations and some liveaboards. Alternatively get a flight only option from one of the companies listed there and pay $5 a night in Dahab...the real...

AOW in the tropics or the UK?

I have only a couple of Uk dives, I have never trained here and so spend a fotune travelling to feed the addiction. I agree with the others, if you ever want to try UK diving then do your AOW here, and if you are lucky you can do a drysuit elective and have a suit for the course. If after the...

    New diving regulation in Israel

DE, I wasn't saying that all dive guides in Eilat were cowboys, only this one example, the rest of the guys I dived with were excellent.

    Diving in Malta

Taken from http://webhome.idirect.com/~jproc/haida_ext/backgrounder/maori.html On 12th February 1941 at 0200, while anchored at Malta, MAORI was attacked from the air and a bomb found its way into her Engine and Gear Room. The Tribal blew up and sank, still moored at the emergency...

    Diving in Malta

BTW looks like a good a useful site (the one created by the original poster). Not sure about some of the history though, I though the Maori was a Destroyer and sunk while under tow back to valetta well after the air attack? A lot of the damage seen was caused as it was dragged out of the...
