    Strengthening my Back

Try doing deadlifts. Just make sure to start off with a light weight and make sure you do it correctly, or else you'll hurt your back even more.

Oceanic scuba gear for a beginner

DVT simply protects the regulator if you dunk it in water without the dust cap on. If you do dunk it without DVT, then you have to have it repaired. Just be careful and you won't need it.

Oceanic scuba gear for a beginner

It eliminates a hose. Some people don't like it because they are worried that if the hose fails, then you lose both you BCD inflater and octo. But the chances of the hose failing at the same time that your buddy is out of air, are slim to none, and unless you're planning on doing tech diving...

Oceanic scuba gear for a beginner

Yoke regulators are the norm in America. Europe uses DIN regulators. DVT is just a failsafe to make sure you don't ruin your regulator by washing it without the dust cap in place. It's not necessary.

Oceanic scuba gear for a beginner

It looks like a good package, but you should make sure that you like console computers and jacket BCDs before you buy it. Wrist computers tend to be easier to watch, and back inflate BDCs help you to be horizontal, and they don't squeeze you when you inflate them.

    10 Minute Water Tread

I sink like a rock with or without full lungs. I just tread water the entire time. It wasn't too bad. My dad told me that when he was first certified in the 70s, you had to tread water for 10(or 15?) minutes while holding your arms all the way out of the water. Now that would have been hard.

To those considering an OW class...

You said that you have never seen non-safe diving practices by a GUE trained diver. People don't die because they were diving safely. There's always some mistake. GUE divers may be a lot safer(they have to be), but they still make errors. Not all divers are professional divers. And believe...

To those considering an OW class...

So no GUE trained diver has ever died while diving? I find that hard to believe. Increasing the certification time to 100 hours is excessive and would probably kill the sport. I know that I would never be diving if I had to go through a 100 hour course. I would get bored to death, and I...

    Once a gas hog...

When you exhale, you don't create a vacuum. The air that occupies your mouth, throat, and lungs after you exhale is CO2 rich air. The first bit of air that you inhale, is that same air that was leftover from when you exhaled. That's called dead air space. Now when you're under water, you...

    Once a gas hog...

What really helped me was focusing on breathing deep and slowly. Once I started breathing deep, instead of shallow, my gas consumption went down. That's probably because I breathe way, way, too shallow. Woah, who said anything about holding it for a few seconds? Not good. Anyway, I can...

    Smile lines are problem!?

Doesn't Mares have a mask with a new kind of silicone that's a lot more flexible? Yeah it's the Liquid Vision. Maybe you should see if you can try on this mask?

    Looking for a good Computer

You can get the Oceanic VT Pro for under $550 at some places. It's a wrist mounted AI computer.

    Purchasing Equipment

The one thing that I didn't like about octo inflaters was that it was hard to breathe and control my buoyancy at the same time. If I was involved in an ooa situation, then I wouldn't want to have any more problems to deal with. So I got a normal octo. Try different things and see what you like.

    tank pressure redundancy

I really don't understand the fear that some divers have for electronic equipment. When properly designed and maintained, electronic devices are just as or more reliable than mechanical ones. And if my AI computer fails, then I'd do the same thing that I'd do if my regulator failed; I'd abort...

    bungee jumping after a dive!!!!

In order to get to 1/2 atm, you have to go to an altitude of 18,000 ft. Unless you have a long-*** bungee cord, then I wouldn't worry. I've ridden a 400ft roller coaster multiple times about two hours after diving and didn't get bent. That's a hell of a lot more stress and g-forces than a...

    Technique for staying underwater

10 meters= A little under 30ft? You should be able to swim 30ft after fully exhaling easily. Just exhale.

So why did you do it?

Stories from my dad and uncles who are divers. Ever since they told me what a night dive was like; I wanted to scuba dive.

    Scary story to relay...

If he was in the water with them then I really don't see why it would be all that dangerous. The biggest worry would be lung over expansion injuries. As long as he made it clear that they were to not ascend when inhaling (or never hold their breath), then they wouldn't have to worry about...
