Collingwood Shore Diving: Does It Exist?

Do NOT dive on seemingly random buoys in deeper water if you manage to get out on a boat. They most likely mark fishing nets and you won't see them until you are in them.

Collingwood Shore Diving: Does It Exist?

The only time site near Collingwood that I'm aware of is the wreck of the Nancy Ward. It's very shallow and a bit of a swim from shore.

Waterproof storage for keys while shore diving

I've got a couple of old Pelican dive lights, pre-LED, but similar to their 2010N. I know they'll do 120 feet without leaking, because they been there multiple times. You'd need to weight it a bit to make up for not having batteries in it. I must maske note of this idea for future trips.

Discovery of the Jane Miller-2017 Expedition Efforts Pt 1

Very nice. Now who do I know with a boat, now that I'm between boats?

Cold water diving is a PITA

If you don't have dependants it is not near as big a deal IMHO. And death diving or not is a tragedy, don't misunderstand me. But for any child, especially while still a dependant, to lose both parents at once is absolutely huge. As for entrapment risks in your area, I don't know. I've read...

Cold water diving is a PITA

How much of the thread DID you read. Cold is a relative term. I've done Toby WET. I've done New Year's on Colpoy's Bay WET!! Also done it dry. So I DO know cold. People have different tolerances. What I find cool is too cold for my wife, she literally turns blue. And the OP had already switched...

Cold water diving is a PITA

Who ever said diving was simple. :D The 2 Si-tech systems are compatible. The permanent wrist rings are similar to the DUI set up, enabling you to change wrist seals. Not that common to tear a wrist seal, especially if you don't trim them. Then they have the Quick clamp system for dry gloves...

Cold water diving is a PITA

Pretty sure they're Viking classic rings. They'd work fine for dry gloves if you could find the mating rings. There should be an o ring in the groove near the end. They're not as secure a coupling as newer designs, such as the Sitech or the newer Viking rings which I have. Viking Bayonet Dry...

Cold water diving is a PITA

I dive dry when conditions warrant, wet when it's warm enough. Dry gloves with rings, still have wrist seals if I flood a glove (only once so far). My selection runs a 3/2 mm full body wetsuit, a 7 mm full body wetsuit, a 7 mm vest with hood, a USIA shell drysuit with 2 different weight undies...

Cold water diving is a PITA

I definitely lean to the wrist seal with rings for gloves. As someone else said, post a photo of the rings and maybe someone can help. According to this thread, you CAN use Si-tech (and probably other) ring systems with DUI Zip seals...

Cold water diving is a PITA

I applaud you for sticking to it. Practice will make a world of difference. For me, the difference in comfort and skills between dive 5 and dive 50 were huge. Aside from wear on the knees of a suit, crawling is fine in my books, if that what safety requires. I've had a reg in my mouth all the...

Cold water diving is a PITA

Tank valves, essential for diving doubles. I haven't heard anything about DUI (or most other DS) being leak prone. Being dessigned for cave and tech divers, DUI is a high end suit with good cloth. I have Si-Tech rings on my USIA suit. They're installed ON the wrist seals and allow me to put my...

Cold water diving is a PITA

Let's just put the DUI being better down as a personal opinion and I don't own a DUI, I have a USIA semi-custom. It's my opinion is based on watching quite a few divers, some of them dive buddies, in quite an assortment of drysuits. I wasn't thinking about the neck seal, although the fact you...

Cold water diving is a PITA

DUI suits cost more for the reason they're a better suit. Not to put down the White's and if you had a custom fitted White's you might find it just as good. But the DUI is designed for use with BP/wing and doubles, with that bit of extra flex you need to reach around. And diving with a too tight...

Cold water diving is a PITA

Ankle weights add two more pieces of gear to manage. You mention overheating, meanwhile you're adding the time to put one on each leg. Also, Rockets have a nice large foot pocket, making them easier to get over drysuit boots. And spring straps are both easier to get on and the last straps you'll...

Confused newbie in need of suggestions

Sounds like you are heading in the right direction. Shop where I trained encouraged diving as much as possible, as soon as possible after training, to practice the skills learned, as soon as possible after training. I have also seem some 'experienced' divers and had the mis-fortune of diving...

Cold water diving is a PITA

Almost all I do is cold water (Great Lakes). All I can say is practice, practice, practice. Of course, since I learned in cold, I'm sure that going the other way is a lot simpler. And it depends what you consider cold. At around 60F, I switch to my thick wetsuit, as it's simpler than drysuit...

Confused newbie in need of suggestions

There's more fresh water diving relatively near you than you might think. I'm going to recommend you build up your diving experience before you travel again. Focusing on buoyancy and navigation skills until you don't have to think about them will pay huge dividends. IMHO, you might have a card...
