Grand Cayman - Looking for small group/boutique dive operator.

I was about 24 at the time, and he was "old" then...so probably over 30! Now I'm 50, he's definitely old.

Grand Cayman - Looking for small group/boutique dive operator.

Is that Tom Shropshire a pretty old guy (50's at least at this point) with a southern (Kentucky maybe?) accent, and drinks nothing but diet coke? If so, wow! He was my roomate in the Bahamas in 1998.

    New Halcyon Rebreather?

That is exactly what I was thinking! Or a LAR V. Years ago, I had thought about modifying a LAR V as a chest mounted bailout CCR (or a Draeger Dolphin more likely). Problems I came up with: 1- I had no use for a bailout CCR. 2- "Bailout CCR" isn't really a thing, it's just a dual CCR since you...

    Video Light for Cave Diving

That's great! So rare that a $20 piece of plastic solves problems in diving!

    BP/W Instructor for 10 yo?

How tall is she? That may make a bigger difference on BPW than anything else.

    DIR- Generic SPG location justification

Trying this again, apparently my first post got put in the sandbox... What is the GUE justification for SPG on the left hip vs on the left shoulder? Only reason I've come up with is at the 2 stage/deco cylinder level, with the SPG on the hip there are three clips on both d-rings, but with it on...

    Video Light for Cave Diving

Looks like you need something that is more diffused and brighter. I've had good luck with light and motion Sola video lights. Looks like they only have two options right now, either would work for what you want. Depending on your current dive lights, you could also give one of the Dive Rite...

Question Questions about Drysuit fins and air in feet

You might want to try some gaiters as well. Diverite makes some pretty good ones. Just know that the fabric part goes on the BACK of your calves, and they clip in front... unlike the picture on Diverites web site.

"Two" forums? Some posts only visible on old.scubaboard.com

So do I need to repost my question someplace else? I did post it from work, which is a remote campus, so who knows what all VPN type things are happening.

Equipment A Dive to Remember: Overcoming Technical Hurdles with Teamwork

And freeflowing poseidon's will drain a tank real quick! I used to drain a set of double 100s from 3300 psi to about 1500 psi in less than 2 minutes at the surface.

    BARE Sentry Tech Drysuit

I have one. I was one of the beta testers, so I abused it for a year, including a bunch of 2-3 hour pool sessions in it with little to no rinsing. Main body of the suit is still in great shape. I probably have 150 hours in it at this point. I did have to recently replace the the zipper for a...

Dumb question, but... how deep can you go?

The controller and the battery compartment are the only parts of a CCR that aren't at ambient pressure, so they'll go as deep as those two spaces have integrity. I suppose there would also be a limit on spring strength in the first stages, even if they aren't fixed. I don't remember the depth...

    I am frustrated

It sounds like you have stability problems, not buoyancy problems. Until you feel stable in the water, everything else is a challenge. I would recommend private classes with a different instructor, preferably one that emphasizes neutral buoyancy and proper trim from the outset. If you have to...

Deep Six Eddy - love 'em execpt...

Ah, so the PADI DM swim test? I actually like their scoring system much better than the pass/fail version. We are in a 25M pool, so both the swim and snorkel are fast enough that they take both some level of fitness and some level of technique.

Deep Six Eddy - love 'em execpt...

What was your time limit on the 800? 800m, 17 minutes and going slow don't math right. And you are talking kicking only, correct? No arms?

Deep Six Eddy - love 'em execpt...

I'm taking that as a challenge! I'll report back next week. And I am aware that I am using them for something outside of their design parameters. I still love them for everything else!

Deep Six Eddy - love 'em execpt...

I recently got a pair of Deep Six Eddy fins. I love them! Switched from Mares Avanti Quattros and the neutral buoyancy is perfect for everything I've tried so far (Single tank , no suit, 3mm wetsuit and drysuit). Haven't used them with my CCR yet, we'll see how that goes in a week. I have found...

Loss of the drilling ship C.P. BAKER - blowout 46 years before DEEPWATER HORIZON

That's pretty good vis for the bottom of the gulf, was that first shot of the diver on the mud or on the wreck? I don't think I've ever seen no nepheloid layer before! What's the profile off the bottom?
