Canon 5D Mark II, $1400.00 OBO includes shipping

This guy bought a used dome port, with a shade that was cracked. Has not a thing to do with this ad. He is going out of his way to spread false and misleading information, on a port that was listed on Wetpixel site (where he bought it). He then asks me to falsify customs forms for him...

Ikelite 5D Mark III - Brand New PLUS PORTS (many)

First of all, this item sold on Wetpixel, not here. The buyer mis-states so many items, it is troublesome. More importantly, it was disclosed there was a patch on the shade IN THE POST. Subsequent PM's from the person, agove, reiterated that. Dome/shade sold on Wetpixel. Buyer apparently...

    1D-X or 5Diii ?

I shot the 5D Mark II, and now the Mk III. From working topside (haven't dove the Mk3 yet, due to a car wreck), I can tell you the Mk3 is beyond awesome in low-light situations. With the new AF zones and focus points, it's a dream to shoot in low light (do a lot of macro, and the ability to...

Ikelite 5D Mark III - Brand New PLUS PORTS (many)

For sale is a brand new, NEVER dove Ikelite housing, for the beyond-awesome Canon 5D Mark III. I test dove in shop pool 1 time, then decided to bite the bullet on an Aqautica setup (after a 2.5 year round of back surgeries). I shot a 5D Mk II in an Ikelite for five years (see...

Article: Send Lawyers, Guns, and Money

Similar to what happened to John, I had a woman run over on one of my road construction projects. She and her friends ignored posted warnings and barricades, and chose to walk in a live traffic lane. 3 of the 4 were hit by a car (at night), and 1 was seriously injured. Literally the last day a...

How reliable is the Suunto Transmitter?

I like my Suunto wireless devices (Vytec DS and Vyper Air), but I have had BOTH transmitters on these units BOTH crap out in the middle of a dive (one in a guided cavern dive, no less). No leaks in the units, flawlessly cared for, but they just quit working. The last one (two weeks ago), I took...

200' on air for 5 min bottom time?

For all you folks "guessing" what would be okay. You might want to have even a minor understanding of oxygen toxicity before offering a really dumb suggestion. That, along with a potential narcosis hit. It is amazing that what people don't know they don't know makes them think it might be...

    Cenote Aerolito de Paraiso

There are actually several on the island of Cozumel. Your best bet is to contact German Yanez. His website is Germán Yañez He is pretty much the international cave diving expert that lives on Cozumel. He does extensive training (and now, even sidemount full cave), and is a very good fellow to...

    Shipping a tank

Wow, lot's of hassle. As pointed out, you have to remove the valve from the tank, for air transport. You'll be constrained by the rest of the group, on bottom time. Not sure why you'd want a steel there. Most resorts do 4-5 dives a day, so you'll have plenty of bottom time.

    2.stage leak?

There are a lot of potential reasons. Most regulators have valve seats that keep pressure on the diaphragm that is in your 2nd stage. This creates a crease in the neoprene, so when you fire it up, that crease is still there. It gets worse with time. It is way worse if you've stored this reg in...

    key largo dive fatality

Very sad. Hopefully they followed safety protocols (administering o2). If he was low on air (after only 25 mins in 60ft???), hopefully he didn't do a pop-up without breathing on ascent, as that could be an AGE. That's also not the best diving conditions, as posted by reefman. If you're like...

Honest question for you dive masters instructors out there

As an instructor, I really only dive with my students. While I am on a trip that I am leading through the shop, I do give gear setup briefings, but leave it up to the specific boats DM to do the dive briefing. Often, you can "tell" who is an instructor/DM, etc, by the fact they're not throwing...

Funniest Diving quotes you have heard

"Don't worry, you don't need a backup light" - from our cave guide, while doing a "cavern tour" in Tulum (and we were way, way, far from any exit).

Knee Arthroscopic Surgery and time line for diving

Ditto on TSandM, on the extent. I've had my right knee done 3 different times (1 for skiing backwards and falling in someone else's hole while doing a spin turn; 1 while whitewater kayaking, and the flooded river surging over me while getting back in my boat; and one walking off the edge of a...

    RELIABLE Camera Flood Insurance...?

The best defense is a good offense. Be very, very careful in housing and gear assembly. When you get "on location", assemble your entire rig, including flashes, sync chords, etc., only after completely disassembling anything with an easily serviceable o-ring (sycn chords, housing gaskets, port...

Looking for help choosing underwater camera...

You're pretty limited at $1000.00 for a camera, housing, and strobe. I'd suggest a Sealife rig, or maybe even a GoPro "black" series, but you'll be stuck with wide-angle on that. You could also get an older Canon G-series, put in a Canon housing, and add flash later. I think they're up to a...

    Exploring new gear options

Depends on what you like. Your LDS can order stuff. Sherwood makes good stuff (I own two SR-1's). The LDS does have overhead the internet stores don't have. Try taking a OWD class from them.....can't do it. As pointed out, LDS's will often price match. Remember, you have to get your gear...

Diver lost 15 Jan 2013 Cozumel

..Yeah, and maybe my students will quit whining when I tell them to do their safety drills on every dive trip, during a checkout dive. And listen to their DM. And dive within their limits/experience. One can only hope. Condolences to this woman's family.

    Lighting Tips with PowerShot

You will need a flash with an optical pickup. Some flashes can account for camera's "pre-flash" (or just turn it off). SunPak used to make an "all weather flash" (have one that I still use for off-camera slave flash), but don't know if they do anymore. Ikelite makes flashes that will do that...

Video light questions - how bright? What color?

Your question is a bit too broad, not knowing much about your camera. I lot of video quality is determined by how fast your setup can write to disk/card, and how fast your storage actually is (UDMA 7 or higher?). For a DIY, I'd suggest a pair of UK Light Cannons. You can put diffusers on the...
