The name changed from "Sidney Dive n Surf" to "Sidney Dive Centre." I checked the site again...they haven't changed much except the phone number and address.....I assume there will be more to come. I'm not sure if Dan will continue working there or not. Laura told me at the show that they are...
A lack of enthusiasm would seem to me to be a reasonable explanation.
Dan did relocate to his home for a few months, but then reopened in West Sidney at the BC Dive College Building (at the east end of the airport, near Slegg Lumber). He then promptly sold the store and the charter boat (Fathom...
Last year's show was pretty good. Lots of stores, manufacturers, specials on local charter boats and interesting presentations. I'm not sure how the attendance was last year, but it was a well put together show from what I saw. I guess they didn't generate enough interest from exhibitors or...
I paid $15 to go to this event this afternoon/evening. The show itself was extremely dissappointing and I was initially somewhat upset about wasting the entry fee. I almost didn't hang around to see Stan Waterman.....BUT man I am glad I did.
In case you don't know, Stan Waterman is a...
SoakedIontra,
It seems you have opened up a can of worms here. I'm not sure that this is the appropriate location for this question/discussion, as it is obvious the only answers that the locals are able to give are that they have never been sick after diving at Ogden Point, and that they have...
Sidney Divensurf has re-opened in Sidney. It appears that they under new ownership. They are located on the West Side of the Patricia Bay Highway (Hwy 17). Their website has a map of where to find them. Sidney Dive Centre - Vancouver Island, BC, Canada
Enjoy your time up here!
Dan Bauer from Sidney Dive Centre (Dive'n Surf) just sent out an email to his distribution list indicating he has bought all the stock from Liquid Heaven. Apparently he has some equipment that appears to have been given to Liquid Heaven for repairs. If its yours or your know whos it is, he says...
I'm not as heavy as you, but I'm 6'3" and I am fairly big in the upper body. I bought a Zeagle Ranger right after my OW cert. It is totally adjustable, and I even think I can expand it more if I need to....although I'm hoping that won't be necessary!! I concur with some of the others...
The police apparently are taking it quite seriously. They called late this afternoon and area apparently sending the dive team out to recover it tomorrow.
My wife and I were diving for Crab the other day.....and found a nice big shiny box about three feet by four feet. When we went around the other side we discovered that it was a safe with a big hole in the door. It looked like someone had either blown it open, or pried a big hole in it...
Hi Karen
There are a few on the west coast:
1. The outdoor recreation show in Vancouver, B.C. is in February and has a scuba section including a demo pool.
The Outdoor Adventure Show - National Event Management
2. Sidney Dive Expo is in Sidney in September (Near Victoria on Southern End of...
I'm with Osseous, check out what Zeagle has to offer. I am a big guy (at least a xxl) and I own an XL Zeagle Ranger. I found it fit fine initially, but after I went to a drysuit, I needed more room, and the waist portion was easily expanded.
Good luck.
Bisugo,
I have size 15 feet. I bought an off the rack XXXL White's (Yes triple XL) drysuit with built in socks that you put in high-top style boots. The socks are a snug fit for my size 15 feet, and I was told it was only a minor cost ($50) to have them swapped out for bigger socks if I needed...
If I ever vomit underwater I'll keep my regulator in my mouth thanks very much. As noted by someone above, the natural reflex is to take in a breath and I have some pretty vivid recollections of gaspint for a breath \the last time I vomited into a bucket.
I'm not sure that anyone could put the...
I'm not aware of any sailing schools up there but if there are any they should show up with google. I would suggest you try contacting the local yacht clubs (gibsonsyachtclub.com or gulfyachtclub.com). If they don't know of anyone who will take you out for the day, you might want to ask if...
Unfortunately, it looks like you will be in Victoria mid-week, which limits my availability (I work out of town) and probably a few others' as well. The only suggestion I have for you is to call/email one of the dive shops and see if they know of anyone. There are guided dives Sat at Frank...
No one has piped up about White's Drysuits, which are very common on the west coast (They are made on Vancouver Island). I just bought the White's Catalyst 360 and so far so good. www.whitesdiving.com
I would recommend that you get out to some LDSs and rent as many different brands as you...
Thanks to everyone for their replies. I'm going to start calling around to other LDSs tomorrow and confirm that their Drysuit course covers all the important things and probably sign up for the next one. Then I can get back to Diving.
In the end what is important to me is learning how to use...
No. I was quite specific with the LDS Owner after the dive. I asked: "Is there anything else involved in this?" The answer was "We apply for a certification card for you"
