    Dishonest LDS ??

A slightly different take... Undoubtedly, the bit about the fins is BS designed to push a sale, but the more annoying thing to me is that he made some strange claims regarding the content of the course. Yes, it is a bit dishonest to sell fins in the way they tried, but remember that she is...

Planning a dive trip, but to where?

If money is no object, how about Fiji or Tahiti? I haven't been to Tahiti, but Fiji is pretty unbeatable. While you are at it, how about Micronesia?

    Do you support your troops

How about this follow up question... If you support the troops, what does your support consist of? The most ardent troop supporters I ever met during my 20+ years in the US military supported the troops by putting a stupid yellow ribbon magnet on the back on their cars. I never had so much...

    Need a PERFECT honeymoon suggestion

Fiji was a fabulous honeymoon destination. We didn't have any of the issues Almitywife apparently had, though. Fiji can be done on a spectrum of budgets. The diving is fantastic and non-diving activities are great too. Also, it isn't a bad trip from the US. About 10 hours nonstop from LAX...

Three dives in one day against the rules?

I try not to do less than 3 dives in a day! I don't get as much time to dive as I would like so I like to fill up the day when I do get to go. I have done as much as 5 per day for three days in a row (with sufficient surface intervals) and I am still undead.

    Quarry session-Learned a lot

It sounds to me like you dealt with the issue well by keeping your head, but you shouldn't be having that big a problem with your tank strap. I think you need to get that thing on tighter. It helps to get it really wet before putting it on the tank.

The cost of PADI certification in your area

In the L.A. area it can be challenging to compare because different shops include different things. Generally, it is about $250-$300 for the course. That normally includes the classroom, book, pool sessions, and beach dives. A boat trip is about $100 more (most shops here will do the OW dives as...

    What's wrong with Split Fins??

I think split fins have their place. My wife dives Apollo Bio-Fins and loves them because she gets tired on a long dive with paddle fins she has tried. I use Mares Quattros and prefer them, but I am much stronger than she is. We have dived together into currents and I haven't observed her...

is there freedom of speach on Scubaboard and is it an american site?

If you are not intending to do anything illegal, then why do you need a card at all? Your claim seems to be that you have accumulated that knowledge on your own so you don't need the course. But, showing a certification card from an agency is the same as making the statement that you have...

    log book checks?

May wife and I were asked once in Roatan. I don't think not having it would have made much difference. He had just had a bad experience a couple days prior with a diver who had lied to him about his experience level.

    Your favorite travel web sites?

Undercurrent and Scubaboard for dive operators and locations. I like TripAdvisor for hotels and restaurants, but I agree with scubamickey - you really have to be able to sift out the whiners. Still, I have found really good advice on there.

Poke a hole in your hood for venting??

I would agree with this. My hood feels a little less tight at depth due to the neoprene thinning. I don't imagine an air bubble in the hood would cause an increased choking sensation either because the trapped air would also compress the deeper you go. It must be a small hood or, since it...

    Fiji Trip Report and Photos

Great trip report. My wife and I went to Qamea and Taveuni for our honeymoon a couple years ago and had a great time. The diving was fantastic. We dived with Swiss Fiji and Jewel Bubble Divers. Both were very good operators. I am surprised you were diving without a wetsuit. We were there...

    What the heck??

Does it only happen in the pool? Or, have you only been in the pool lately? New mask? My first thought was that your mask skirt was on your eyebrows, but since you are experienced I would think you would notice that your mask was on differently. My second thought is that it is facial muscles...

    Suggested Diving in San Diego???

60 is optimistic. It might be 60 near the surface, but there is usually a thermocline. Under that, it will be immediately colder. Low 50s. I dive a 7mm fullsuit with a 3mm hooded vest and still am sometimes cold. You see quite a few drysuits here also, but wetsuits work fine. La Jolla has...
