Roatan is a great spot for diving and doing courses. Diving has opened out across the length island opening up more of the other lesser known spots. The west end has really changed in the past couple of years but still has the most interesting scene IMO. I thought the reef had come back of late...

the PADI advanced course has to be the most misnamed course ever. No offence to any advanced divers, in fact I know guys on only open water who have hundreds of dives and ARE advanced. Sorry for hijacking this thread!

In terms of the paelagics you can usually spot baracudas. Im not sure if Jacks are paelagics though. I wouldnt count on seeing a whaleshark unless you go with one of the plane spotting helped operations.
