Snorkeling spots in St. Thomas and St. Maarten

I'm going on a family cruise that will stop in both St. Thomas and St. Maarten. Unfortunately, I won't be doing any diving. I wanted to get some recommendations for good snorkeling spots. Healthy reefs, good for kids and hopefully not too crowded. Also, is it a good idea to rent a car or walk or...

What is the difference between the Coral Sea and Ribbon Reefs?

all of the above are the premium dives along the GBR. Skip the day boats and 1-2 night liveaboards and get on the trips going up north (Ribbon/Cod Hole/Osprey), the quality of the reef in the northern GBR is a huge difference from the reefs 3-4 hour boat ride from Cairns or Port Douglas. Cod...

What is the best one day trip on the GBR?

I'll be in Cairns late this month. I've been spolied by the northern ribbon reefs and the coral sea in the past and have heard all the stories of the dead coral areas that the day boats frequent around Cairns. I'm bringing a friend this time who isn't certified, and I'm looking for the best...

Newly discovered amazing reef in Guam...

When I went back to snorkel the site, the visibility wasn't so great so I didn't see as much as I did the first time. Still was worth the go though... saw schools of 1-2' trevally, a moray, the baby parrotfish, and a TINY yellow with black spotted box fish or something of the sort. It was so...

Newly discovered amazing reef in Guam...

I'm from Guam, snorkeled a lot while growing up here, and have done around 40 dives (the usual spots that MDA or GTDS will take you)... but never before have I seen a reef in Guam this healthy, diverse and full of life. My recent discovery is also located in a place you'd never expect there...

Manta Ray Hotel and Yap Divers, Yap

I dove with both Yap Divers and Beyond the Reef and liked Beyond the Reef a lot better. The Yap Divers boats were crowded compared to just 2-4 diving with Beyond the Reef.

    M/V Nimrod Explorer Travelers

I've heard nothing but great things about Nimrod. A good friend of mine went on it last year and said it was great. I am planning on going in January.

Anyone up for some shore dives in Guam?

I'll be here till December 27. Looking for a buddy/s for some shore dives. Maybe Gun Beach, Piti, or on the dive sites off Big Navy if you have a base ID. I'm 24, m, with about 65 dives experience in Guam, Yap, Monterey/Carmel, Thailand, Yap, Costa Rica, and the northern GBR.

    Flights to Palau?

Palau Micronesia Air has a Thanksgiving special from Guam to Palau for only $299! It's the cheapest flight I've seen to Palau. I'm going in one week! I've been to Palau before but it was when I was young and didn't dive. I hear the diving there is just mind blowing.

    Controversial Exp. with MDA, Guam

I have always liked GTDS better, but most people seem to like MDA better. Wayne and Paula are friendly Aussies, I never had any problem with GTDS. What exactly do you mean by politics? Your post is a little vague.

    tAKA DIVE

I am planning on taking the Taka trip in January. I took Spirit of Freedom last time and it was amazing, but we only did the Ribbon Reefs and Cod Hole, I hear the Coral Sea is the best diving in the area. Taka is one of the best budget options for live-aboards going to the Northern GBR and...

    Flights to Palau?

The word about Continental having a monopoly in Micronesia is old news. There has been a new airline for a little while now. It is called Palau Air Micronesia. I am originally from Guam and fly back often. The best way to get a ticket to Micronesia is through a consolidator agent...

Tusa Spirt of Freedom July Trip Report...

wow, sounds like you had a blast. Great trip report. I look forward to diving the GBR again next month... This time I'm going to make it up to the Coral Sea (last time I just did the Ribbons).

    Spirit of Freedom Liveaboard

    1. The temp when I was there in June was about 77-80 degrees F, not sure what that is in C. A 5mm full suit I think is way too much for tropical diving! No use having to constrict yourself in a tight suit if you don't need to. I was wearing a 3mm shorty and felt fine. Some girls were diving...

Diving in Poor Knights - 1st time diving in cold waters

What are summer water temps at Poor Knights in Farenheit? Do I need a constricting 7mm or would 5mm do?

    Food on the Taka

I was also very worried before I left, that the live-aboards would be full, especially at the height of the supposed dive season in Cairns (june)... but when I got there, I was very glad that I didn't get tempted to book ahead because the rates were so much better and there were PLENTY of vacancies.
