I want to figure out how to make my Native WaterCraft 14.5 into a diveable Kayak.
It is more of a cross between a Kayak and a Canoe and is open on top. I think if I added an outrigger and some skirts to reduce water splashing in it might be possible. It is very stable to...

I am interested in Kayak Diving. Not sure about a club though. Sounds a bit to formal.
But, I would like to find more Kayak accesible dive sites in the Tampa Bay or West Coast areas.
I'd also like to get some ideas on how other people rig their yaks for diving.
Hello fitparrish,
Welcome to the board.
I am mostly a lurker here - reading and learning.
I have been certified since 96 but don't get too dive much, but I am planning to change that in the near future, so I might want to hook up with you and others for some diving.
Thanks MoteMan,
Yes my kayak is a NativeWatercraft which is sort of a cross between a kayak and canoe, so it is open on top and difficult to reboard from deep water. I have considered an outrigger for stability when reboarding but haven't tried it yet.
I would like to try the Alhambra site...
Hey MOTEMAN do you use a SOT kayak for diving?
My goal last year was to get a kayak for diving and fishing and my Wife bought me a kayak for Christmas. It is great for fishing, but I don't think it is going to cut it for diving. But, at least her heart was in the right place:D.
Oh, and Where...
Hi RJP,
I am going to the same area next week, and some people here have suggested the following two places. I have no experience with them, but they both have boats in the Haulover Marina, just south of the area you are staying in.

I am going on a Cruise with the same itinerary and have the same concern with "shore Excusions".
It sounds like the Belize stop might require shore excursion thru ship because of distance to the better sites.
Check on www.cruisecritic.com also there are many "experienced" cruise divers on that site.
I agree with others. I live in Tampa Bay area (near Clearwater). Diving close to Tampa is not great, but short drive to good diving. If you want ocean diving in Tampa area it is a long boat ride to water deep enough for diving. Go north of Tampa there are caves/caverns and springs to dive...
