Looking for a scooter for shore dives

My wife insists that if I am spending that much money on a scooter, it has to come with a warranty. And with a good reason -- my first SeaDoo GTI was replaced for free under warranty.

Looking for a scooter for shore dives

Can someone recommend me a reliable scooter with at least 60 minutes battery time, under $1500? And by "reliable" I mean it can bang against rocks on a shore dive, and the gear wheels are not made of plastic -- which is the case with SeaDoos, and are usually the first thing to fail. Does not...

    Rockport Welcome Divers Signs

I disagree: he absolutely should declare himself a vexatious litigant. And the sooner, the better!

Lobster diver swallowed by humpback whale off Provincetown

OK, not actually swallowed, just held in the whale's mouth for a bit. But that is the title of the article :) Man swallowed by whale off the coast of Cape Cod while lobster diving What surprised me (aside from the obvious!) is that "commercial lobster divers" exist. I had known some people who...

    Colorful strings of eggs

Today I went in off Stage Fort Park, and the sea was full of these weird strings -- I assume they are strings of eggs. Each egg is 1-2 mm across, bright purple, and has a pink-purple tassel some 5 mm long hanging off it. Quite striking, especially since some of these strings are over 2' long...

    Catfish in Gloucester harbor?

Two days ago not far from Stage Fort Park I saw a fish about 50 cm long, which I would swear was a freshwater catfish, barbells and all. It looked very much like this: Definitely does not belong in New England, but also does not look like an unfortunate tropical Gulfstream occasionally drags...

    Puerto Vallarta Dive Operators

I went with Vallarta Adventures. I really liked their operation, but have to warn you -- if you are experienced, bring your own light. On several of the dives the guides separated relative novices into one group, and others (divemasters, instructors, professionals, etc.) into another. The first...

    Learning from experience

No Same way I got it off my chest D-ring -- by unclipping it. Or are you asking how I would get the lanyard off the blade? No guarantee that I can do that, in which case I would have a long swim back. Here is the light in question. The clip is for attaching it to D-ring. The lanyard goes on...

    Learning from experience

I do use it on the surface, face down and breathing through a snorkel. When I descend, I leave the scooter on the surface, clipped to the flag. At least that's the usual procedure -- I had used the scooter at the bottom, but very rarely.

    Learning from experience

On shore dives I normally hang my light (if I bring one at all) from a D-ring on my chest; when I actually need the light, I unclip it, put the lanyard over my left wrist and tighten it. A week ago I was doing a shore dive which required a very long surface swim, so I brought a scooter. As I...

How do I open the gearbox on SeaDoo GTI?

This is beyond the scope of the manual which came with the scooter, and all online videos and instructions I was able to find deal with the other end (circuit board). How do I open and clean the gears? The reason I am asking is because when I turn on the scooter, the motor makes noise, but...

What is the difference between brands of full-face masks?

Thank you for all responses! Yes, I will make sure to try a mask on first, rather than buy one sight unseen. And yes, I am not currently affiliated with any dive shop.

What is the difference between brands of full-face masks?

I am considering a full-face mask, and I see significant difference in price between OTS Spectrum, OTS Guardian, and Ocean Reef brand full-face masks (roughly in that order). What is the difference? Any other tips regarding a full-face mask would be appreciated!

Another dive season coming up for RI/Jamestown/Newport

I remember diving from Narragansett Pier No.5 years ago. It is a very short drive from Wakefield; is it still accessible in terms of parking?
