first time in San Diego water

That's a good question. The Lois Ann used to supply them as the standard tank, but that was a few years ago. None of the others do, that I know of.

Dive boat/ Sport fisher coming from Honolulu to San Diego

Capt Jack, Try doing some trips that the other boats here don't do. Such as San Clemente Island, and the Cortez Bank. Maybe there's a market for trips from San Diego to the Farnsworth Bank off Catalina. You definately need to get some pictures of your boat on your website. Unfortunately...

Please go diving with me, Marissa Dive Charters, March 18-18

I will be out of town that week, otherwise I would be happy to dive with you. Hopefully, one of the many other SD divers will step up.

Diving So Cal beginning Aug. 6

La Jolla Shores is the basic intro dive for San Diego, but it's mostly sand. I like La Jolla Cove better, since there's kelp. From your itinerary, it seems like Laguna Beach would be more likely, since it's much closer to Irvine. I'll defer to Orange County folks for the LDS choice up there.

    Diving Lake Tahoe ?

I got married there, and I've always been interested in diving there. Is there anything specific to see there, and are you talking boat dive or shore?

Dive Bliss is out of business. My favorite boat is the Lois Ann.

Opinions on diving the Children's Pool

I dove there a few years ago, and the seal huggers were out in full force. They wanted to give us a big hassle, but we weren't interested. I definately would not dive there with my wife. Go to La Jolla Cove.

BC manufacturers must be Raking it in...

So you're new to scuba, yet you know that a BC hasn't changed in 30 years? Exactly how would you know that? You watched some old TV shows? Take it from somebody who actually did dive 30 years ago. BC's have changed.

Anyone here sticking with analog gauges?

I still use analog compasses, because I've never seen a digital compass that I like. I have an analog pressure gauge on my pony bottle reg, but the main reg has a digital pressure gauge. Remember, it's not one or the the other. You can have a mixture of digital and analog if you want. And...

    Is this for real?

It came from this thread: http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=186357&page=8 post #74 I wanted to check it out before I got all bent out of shape over it.

    Is this for real?

This was posted in another thread: I've got some bad news for you dude. In Hawaii it is now a U.S. Coast Guard mandate that you dive with, follow and follow the direction of a Professional Dive Leader (aka DM) on any paid dive from a commercial boat. Big Brother is making your safety the...

Need to buy new Tanks, which one?

Another vote for the X7-100. I have one, and it's my favorite tank. The valves you have are yoke. J and K were part numbers in an old US Divers (Aqua-Lung) catalog 50+ years ago. The regulator fits over the valve, and you tighten a knob on the reg to hold it on to the valve. DIN valves...

HP Steel tanks with Yoke valves

All my tanks and regs are din. I use an adapter whenever I rent a yoke valve tank. Never regretted going din. That said, there are plenty of people using yoke regs with 3442 psi tanks, regardless of the yoke reg pressure rating. Most of the time you won't get a full fill anyway, and when you...

    Diving with strangers

I dive like this all the time. Most recently today. When I get on a boat where I don't know anybody, then my position is I'm diving solo, whether they assign me a buddy or not. I've had good buddies and bad, but I won't trust anybody on the first dive. The bad buddies were the ones who didn't...

    Suunto Cobra & Nitrox

I've done this with my Cobra. The SAC will be off (but so what?) and the deco calcualtions will be off, in your favor, slightly. Go ahead and use your pony bottle, and don't worry about the computer.
