    red sea rules?

These rules refer to safaris doing the southern route (Brothers, Elpinstone, if you are doing the northern route (Tiran, Ras Mohammed, Abu Nahas, Shag Rock, Shag Ali, Sha'ab Mahmoud, I think you only need to have 25 logged dives. The fact is that there can be very very strong currents on some...

Instead of toothpaste you can carefully burn off any manufacturing residue on the mask with a cigarette lighter. Warning the mask will become hot and should be left too cool afterwards.

Do you need PADI AOW for the "Simply the Best" tour(Brothers, Elphinstone, Daedalus)?

http://www.sheffield.ukco.com/holidays/redsea-diving%20rules.html Above is a link for the Red Sea Association rules, although I can't find a date for this. I could well be out of date. As Drew52 says, best to check with the dive operator you are going to book through.

Moray Eel Bites Off Diver's Thumb

How about not upsetting the ecosystem as a reason for not feeding any animals, rather than it being a danger to divers? Do you think for one minute that bits of pig scraped off the abatoir floor would be a normal diet for the moray?? Mad cow disease started as cow's are herbivores and farmers...

Hi Marinane, I work for Sinai Divers in Sharm El Sheikh, we have centres both in Sharm (Ghazala Beach Hotel) and in Dahab (Dahab Hilton). You can do as you say spend your whole time in Sharm and take trips up to Dahab, or split your time between the two. Dahab is a lot more chilled out an...

What's your impression of this behavior?

This type of bad mouthing makes us all look bad. If this LDS owner is PADI affiliated you could make a Quality Assurance complaint against him as being a PADI member you are required to 'Not wrongfully disparage the PADI organization, PADI Members or any other dive industry professionals.'...

    Thistlegorm and Mooring buoys

I believe the reason why there are no mooring buoys at Thistlegorm is that because it is considered a war grave and that we shouldn't really be diving it. Most guides in the Red Sea would love to have mooring buoys at the Thistlegorm, as before we lead the customers on their first dive, we may...

What are your salaries as a DM or OWSI?

Since I arrived in Sharm El Sheikh, Red Sea, it's been low season and i've been making between 800-1000 euros a month. When I was in Vietnam I was making $325 + 10% commission on sales + free room in a staff house. Worked out at about $450 cash in hand a month.

    The Scuba death rate...

One thing that isn't reported in the Accidents and Incidents forum is when the accidents are just down to sheer stupidity. I guess this is out of respect for the dead and not wanting to upset anyone. The newly qualified DM who decided to train for the world air depth record by going to 70...

    Diving in Vietnam

The diving in Vietnam is still good, but you don't always have good visibility. Most of the diving is pretty shallow and with sandy bottoms that are easily stirred up by the weather. If you look back at the weather for Vietnam for the past 6 months you'll see that they've been hit by a typhoon...
