    Tooth extraction damaged sinus

I had an upper left molar tooth removed 2 days ago. It was a fairly difficult extraction. Last night doing my salt water mouth rinse per the dentist's instructions, I did some reasonably forceful swishing to get any debris out of the socket only to find water coming down my left nostril. From...

    A few more from Indonesia

No. 1 is a wrasse but don't know which Goby is Vanderhorstia dorsomacula - a female. Dorsalspot Shrimpgoby Parrotfish is a wrasse - most likely the Two-spot Wrasse, Oxycheilinus bimaculata. This species, like many wrasse, is extremely variable in colour depending on age, sex, food, mood and...

    Indonesian fish

1 Some type of juv. cardinalfish - maybe Moluccen but difficult to be sure. Apogon monospilus 2 Weird colour! Guess your white balance is off. Shape looks like a Bignose Unicornfish - Naso vlamingi 3 A type of Chub - I find the various species very difficult to distinguish 4 Photo very dark...

    Philippines fish

Looks like a type of snapper called a Green Jobfish, Aprion virescens. I ran it through Photoshop to get rid of the haze and show a bit more detail.

    Another ID needed------what's this???......Philippines

Not sure, some sort of coral I think. However, your turtle pics are of a Green Turtle I believe, not a Hawksbill

    Philippines fish ID needed......taken off

Looks like Priacanthus blochii - Bloch's Bigeye. Lots of photos will vary because this fish adopts all sorts of colour patterns. The end of the tail looks straight but it is a slightly difficult angle to be certain. If it curves inwards, the ID will be Priacanthus hamrur, the Crescent-tail Bigeye

Help on 2 'critter' Ids......pics from

They are both sea cucumbers. I think the nearer, larger one is Synapta maculata but not sure. Could also be a species of Euapta. Cannot see enough of the other one.

    Red Sea fish Id help

Look like Priacanthus hamrur, the Moontail Bullseye or Crescent-tail Bigeye depending on which i.d. book you use. Pretty common fish in the Red Sea. Here is a useful link: Priacanthus hamrur, Moontail bullseye : fisheries, aquarium

    Triple Fin ?

If you follow this link - Fish Identification you will see several Triplefin species with similar blue markings round the mouth. It seems to be a poorly described genus as they have lots of other species listed without photos so this will be a very difficult one to pin down I suspect. Good luck!

    Help needed with Philippines fish

No. 6 in your first list looks like a Lizardfish to me. There are a number of different species and I doubt you will be able to nail it further than that. They are not easy to distinguish and a view of the body is necessary

Is it some form of colonial tunicate (sea squirt)?

    Immature snapper

The whole photo seems to have a yellowish cast Steve so if you tone it down a bit, the fish may look more "normal". P100 of Humann's Caribbean fish guide, shows a dark phase Gray Snapper which matches yours pretty well apart from the white undersides yours is displaying. Hope this helps

    Help needed with Philippines fish

Hi Vondo I agree, Fishbase is not good for browsing but have you found the "Related Species" link? Once you have looked up a particular fish and it doesn't seem quite right, click this link on the main page (near the top right) and you get a photographic list of all related species. I find it...

    Help needed with Philippines fish

First list: 1 Probably Dash-&-dot Goatfish - Parupeneus barberinus but may be P. macronemua, Longbarbel Goatfish. Colour very variable and many goatfish assume weird, bright colours when wanting cleaning 2 Possibly Ambanoro Prawn Goby - Vanderhorstia ambanoro. Really need a side view. Second...

    Goby from Gulf of Oman

Doesn't look a goby to me - I think it is a Triplefin, probably in the genus Enneapterygius. Have a look at the Blotched Triplefin for starters which is found in that area: Enneapterygius ventermaculus, Blotched triplefin If you are not familiar with Fishbase, click on the Pictures link above...
