Dive boat overturned in Boynton Beach, FL

I've had several dives off the Loggerhead. The problem with the Boyton Inlet is that it focuses waves as you pass through it. So 8-10 foot seas become 10-15 foot seas as you pass through the inlet. Normally you just power through on the back of a swell. Most of the charter boats passing through...

    Negligent LDS

I'll give the name of the LDS only after I've talked to the guy who had the problem and I find out how the shop made good and the explaination they have for the poor job. I want to be fair here.

    "Loose" wetsuit question

Have you tried a dry suit? 7-8 mm of neoprene, as other posters have noted, is really in dry suit territory.

Thoughts on the Sherwood Wisdom dive computer?

Does anyone know the difference between the Wisdom and the Wisdom2 besides the plainer faceplate on the 2? More tissue compartments? Different logorithms?

    Shark rescued by a lifeguard!

Good for him. There's enough damage done to sea life by stupid humans.

    Joint stiffness

Sounds like the gear. Slinging those tanks around can get to you and any chronic joint injuries.

Pony's: 30cf LP AL Versus 23cf HP steel??

CF are CF regardless of the psi, right? So a 30 CF pony will give you more gas than a 23 cf pony. The difference would be in the buoyancy characteristics of aluminum vs steel.

    purge masks

None. They're ridiculous and make equalization difficult. Almost as useful as those flip-up fins.:lotsalove:

    Night Dives Dos and Don'ts

If you were diving air and had two dives just shy of 70 feet and each was over an hour, according to my RDP you are way, way, way outside of RDL. Am I reading the RDP wrong or something. Also what type of tank were you diving? An AL80? How can you squeeze over an hour at 68 ft? Do you...

AOW Dilemma. Need some input, please!

Go with the good instructor. Who cares what the shop owner says, he's not teaching you. I also don't get the "swallowing your pride" statement. The owner wasn't saying anything about you, he was cracking on PADI, everybody's favorite whipping boy these days.

    Starfish

I've never seen any starfish on or around reefs in South East Florida, however in protected waters such as Blue Heron Bridge, the place is teeming with starfish.

    Badly trained?

I'm just about to complete my AOW through PADI and I certainly don't think I'm "advanced" by any stretch of the imagination. It is an unfortunate marketing term employed by PADI. They really should change it. Are there people with AOW certification who actually believe that they are advanced...

    Nitrox vs Air

You and I have pretty much done the same amount of diving. I've only used air. At first I was amazed at the effect of the nitrogen loading: I felt fatiqued, spaced out, weak. But the effect became less and less with each successive dive. By the way, I also ascend slowly, in fact, as we speak...

    First unguided dive goes badly

Wow! We seem to be at the same number of dives, but your husband definately has to aquire more experience before he continues diving otherwise he is an accident or a death waiting to happen. You seem to be be much calmer and have aquired skills along with your experience. Anyone who says they...

    Solo in 20 ft dangerous?

There's nothing intrinsically dangerous about solo diving as long as nothing goes wrong. But that's the kicker right there:" ..as long as nothing goes wrong." If something goes wrong then solo diving can kill you. Do you have a redundant air supply such as pony bottle? Many people solo dive in...

    Negligent LDS

Went out on a boat dive yesterday. One of the divers attached his regulator to his tank, opened the tank valve...huge hiss. Several o-rings later it becomes obvious that there is something wrong internally with his 1st stage. Two of the hoses from the 1st stage are also loose. Turns out he...
