Thanks for your replies @ginti @KenGordon. OK so it seems that the answer is, a small pressure change could lead to lung rupture in theory. What surprises me then is that lung over-expansion injuries don't happen far more often? For example, in heavy seas a diver could easily be pushed up and...
We all know not to hold one's breath when ascending while diving, it's one of the most important rules in Scuba Diving taught right at the beginning of an Open Water course.
We also know that due to Boyle's Law, the risk of Arterial Gas Embolism from air entering torn (pulmonary) capillaries...
That’s great to hear, PDR is one of my favourite podcasts and have been listening for years.
Joe said that he’d be returning to podcasting in the second half of 2019 but there’s nothing yet. Does anyone have any updates?
I’ve had a D5 for about 6 months. I can get 5-6 one-hour dives on it with one charge. So even on a heavy day of diving it lasts all day.
That does mean you need to charge every evening, but it’s a great dive computer and once you are in the habit no problem.
Amazing footage! Seriously brave to be in the water with that many Longimanus. Also, I can't believe that this was nearly 50 years ago! How did that happen :P
Just came back from a two week trip to the Raja Ampat Dive Lodge. Great place, no issues and close to many good dive sites. Food was fine too. Island is beautiful and has cockatoos and other exotic birds flying around.
You definitely could do a lot worse. Gede the resort manager is also...
Another recommendation here for Cenote Xperience. I dived two days with them in January this year and their shop was really well run. Both brothers are professional, kind, passionate about cave and cenote diving and most importantly, take their customers safety very seriously.
If you are...
Completely agree, I often still come across her posts when doing a search and her advice is always spot on. Someone should collect them all together into a pdf document as a tribute to her.
Thanks Jonathan,My girlfriend and I have been watching your show for a few years now. She loves it and it helps to keep us in the diving game when we can't actually splash. Keep up the great work! I'm sure you have more fans that you realise.
Rich, that's a great idea. I don't know if anyone is up for taking on the task, but a collection of her top posting wisdom would make a very valuable read for anyone interested in diving, and honour her memory too. Any takers from those who knew her well?
It's hard to understate just how many...
I just heard about this and was shocked to read the news. Over the past ten years on SB, I have read many of her posts and she always was a breath of fresh air for sense and reason. I always treated her posts with a reverence few others receive. A very sad event - you will be missed TS&M.
my...
That's great news that no one was hurt and the reefs are undamaged.
How is the diving in December and January in Sogod? I heard that is was rainy season and rather washed out..?
Thanks for your advice. I ended up in the Similans on a four night, four day liveaboard (MV Daranee) and had a good time. Borneo can wait for the dry season, ;)
So I have discovered! Thanks for your reply.
Two questions, are the Similans diveable this time of year and if the peninsular is out, how about Borneo?
Last minute trip just booked. Friday 21st-31st December, i.e. this Friday. Unfortunately I can't make it to Borneo which I know has fantastic diving, so I am just limited to the Peninsular. Where is the best diving to be found here?
Any advice gratefully received. I have dived most of the...
Can anyone help me ascertain why I cannot access scubaboard from my home? Whenever I try and acces the board from my home address I continually get a "403 Forbidden. Request forbidden by administrative rules." message regardless of the computer or browser. If I use a public-proxy server however...
Really? Will they accept a photocopy of your passport in normal hotels there? I am very unwilling indeed to surrender my passport to a hotel, although I do carry colour photocopies with me.
More information here on the cave divers searching the inside of the Costa Concordia wreck. It must be a pretty dangerous dive with moving objects and an unstable ship though, added to the fact that she is enormous. Searching the whole vessel for any survivors trapped in air pockets could take a...
