Florida proposes closing state parks and aquatic preserves

My understanding is that many of the closures would, in fact, be closures. One of the criteria being used to justify closure is that the park does not generate revenue because they don't charge admission fees. I haven't been able to get a copy of anything other than media articles discussing the...

    Old vet reaquainting myself

Glad you're back Steve. I tell every one of my students diving is the best family activity I know of. When kids start to get older diving provides an excellent common ground. I grew up diving with my dad, 2 uncles and 2 brothers as dive buddies and we still tell diving stories whenever we are...

    What type of signaling device?

Put a whistle on your BC and leave it there. In fact, regardless of whatever else you decide to carry, and you will have to carry it, the whistle should be there. It doesn't need batteries, lubrication, maintenance (except maybe a good rinse after a dive) or an air supply. It is also the...

    Seasports? - GC

No experience with them but since you've got a lot of lead time you can see if you can hook up with some of the Ebanks clan. Last time I talked to Ashton he was running an operation at Stingray City. At on time his brother was still operating his dads boat the Queen Angel. Ebanks on Cayman is...

    NO where close to Matt....

You can do anything you want to do Michael. Regardless of whether you instruct you can always dive and diving is a great family thing to do. With a new baby coming and a wife you have the possibilty of a lifetime of fun. I didn't mean to sound so harsh regarding evaluating ability and...

    Which gear?

Previous posts are correct. The only way you will find a mask that fits properly is to walk into a dive shop and put it on. The personel there should be able to help you fit a mask but if they can't, here's how you do it. 1. Fold the strap over the front of the mask so it is out of the way. 2...

    NO where close to Matt....

I am a disabled instructor Michael. I was an instructor prior to incurring the disability, went inactive for a couple of years then started teaching again. SDI required a special evaluation in order to renew my full instructor status. The concern was the ability to meet the physical demands of...

    Max depth for OWD?

A lot of things have been stated in previous responses perhaps need to be clarified. MAx depth for a recreational air dive are absolutley a personal choice to be made by the individual diver based upon their experience, training, proficiency, skill, knowledge and equipment. All...

    W/A lens

I think that depends a little on the housing and port configuration. You may have a problem with vignetting if the lens gets to wide. The only way to determine what is best is to put the lense on, put the camera in the housing and observe the results.

    Honeymoon hello!

I'd have to agree on St. Lucia. One of my favorites of all the Caribbean destinations. Take the ride and get out of Castries The Hummingbird in Soufriere is a small hotel and very quaint. I honeymooned there and have absolutley no regrets. Sat in the bar restaurant most night and traded songs...

got a new to me boat

Regardless of the motor you choose consider installing a Doel-Fin hydrofoil or similar product. You'll your Bayliner will plane faster and use less fuel. I ran boats for years and always doubted these contraptions had any benefit. Afterall, wouldn't the manufacturer modify the motor foot with...
