    V Planner Deco Conservatism

No idea, but for our dives there is no way you can clear at 70. At 70 you would still have at least 20 mins of deco left by R/D. So I am guessing you were just doing petty stuff. Not sure why your Nitek HE varied so much. Probably should take it to the shop, if it disagreed with VPlanner by...

    V Planner Deco Conservatism

There is a whole slew of people here that dives with them. None has chimed in yet. Odd thing.

Gas planning and the associated math - controversies over need and how to teach

Inappropriate in the sense that it goes beyond their ability to absorb and utilize it during their first course. It is more appropriate to leave that concept for later courses. Most appropriately either master diver or deco.

Then you definitely would not like Fiji nor parts of Australia either.:eyebrow:

    Tech Cost

I see, yet another GUE commercial advertisement. I believe the O/P will be better off completing his plans as they are scheduled however. I hope you do not somehow discourage him with this unabashed advertising.

Gas planning and the associated math - controversies over need and how to teach

I have no doubt that your definitions are correct. I simply dispute that teaching OW1 students more than rule of halves (turning at 1/2 SPG less a small reserve) is appropriate or even necessary. Not trolling. Not even arguing with you. Just disagreeing.

    Tech Cost

I had 2 sets of E8 130s, and one of them always sat around and did nothing. Therefore I think a better choice is a second set of LP 80s or else LP 72s. Therefore I got rid of the second set of 130s, making someone else very happy, since now they are hard to find anywhere. During...

    Tech Cost

D/M is a good start, before you go into tech. The only disadvantage of D/M-ing is that the store will want you to buy and wear one of their fancy nice B/Cs. That will probably set you back $500 and you cannot use this for tech very easily. After your D/M is complete, then you will be an...

Gas planning and the associated math - controversies over need and how to teach

Azimuth straight out and back, and SPG for rule of halves (turning around at 1/2 SPG minus a small reserve) or rule of thirds is all you really need for NDL. Until and if you get into tech diving, anything else would be a waste of time in OW1 or AOW.

But then you would be stuck on Cozumel. You can't drive to the Grand Canyon anymore, or DC on the 4th, or NYC on New Year's Eve, etc. I love Mexico too, and yes the people are wonderfully nice. But not to be stuck there all the time.

I have heard many people rate Palau as the #1 dive site in the world. However I would not want to be stuck there every day.

How does this compare with the other side? The Great Barrier Reef?

If you could only dive in one spot for the rest of your life...

That's funny, because except for island fever, I would think the big island of Hawai'i rates way up on the list close to #1. Because not only do you have world class scuba on the big island, but also snorkeling with dolphins, beaches with black with green sand, volcanoes (not one but 2 of...

Of all the cold water diving this is probably the warmest. But living nearby cannot be cheap either, though.

Too cold and too expensive to live there ($1 million for a rickety shack). If you like cold then PNW would make more sense in the longer term.

I surely would not pick Cozumel because you would be stuck on Cozumel Island. Better would be Key Largo. Also quite affordable there, to retire.

    First Regulator after Certification

On the high end, the best are ScubaPro, Zeagle, Atomic, and Apeks. But I got the impression the O/P wants to know about the lower end, but still with great performance.

    First Regulator after Certification

For your first regulator, I recommend a ScubaPro Mark 2 with the R295. ScubaPro Regulators: Find, Compare, Read Reviews & Buy Online @ Yahoo! Shopping Cost is normally around US$ 200 for both. This gives you a great regulator that you can enjoy for the rest of your life. Or if you...

    Never Been to Hawai'i

I agree with the above. As to which one, I would go to Hawai'i (the big island). Besides scuba every morning, I would go dry-land caving with my scuba cave light(s). And check out the 2 volcanoes. And the Green Sand Beach. And snorkel with dolphins at the Cook monument. And...
