Hi,
This is a long shot but thought I’d try and see what (if any) responses I get.
Would anybody be interested in buddying up who has a Divers Propulsion Vehicle (DPV or underwater scooter) on a Mike Ball liveaboard trip?
I recently started using a friend’s Dive-Xtras BlackTip DPV for local...
Yeah, well keep safe man. Perhaps we'll meet up in August 2021? :) Predictions are 6-18 months until we get over this virus pandemic. By that stage we may be immune to the virus because we already contracted and (hopefully) recovered?
@FettSolo, well got the email from Mike Ball. Looks like our July-August 2020 trip is likely canned.
Thank goodness I only paid a deposit and not the full booking. Mike Ball is not in a position to offer any refunds, that was a surprising discovery.
Thanks. I was on Spirit of Freedom back in 2007, it was my first live aboard and I think this level of liveaboard and the sites around Osprey Reef definitely spoilt me.
Mike Ball will be very similar, very much looking forward to it in 2020.
Looks like we will be meeting each other in person...
OK, will look into it and come to the decision in the next week or so.
Excellent! I assume it was a full boat and the deck probably got a bit crowded? Would like to read your trip report when you are ready. Safe trip back home!
Looks interesting! Currently there are bunks available (club and budget only).
Is this the trip?
7 Night Coral Sea Exploratory
Departure Date: 23/07/2020
Arrival Date: 30/07/2020
Mike Ball are rated very well and perhaps more suited for dedicated photographers since they have camera stations...
Hi Everyone,
Wanted to ask if there are any interested photographers potentially looking to buddy up on the Spirit of Freedom Liveaboard for the purposes of photography and video and looking for leisurely and slow pace diving?
I'm planning to book for the 4 Day / 4 Night: Coral Sea & Ribbon...
Hi Nick,
Great to hear from another South Aussie. Well if you live South have you heard of the Finders University Underwater Club? We're a uni club with a lot of diving experience under our belt. Our meetings are on Thursday evenings, and we go out just about every weekend and do weekday trips...
Interesting term DIR agnostics.. hmm I guess I would fall into this camp.
I've never sat through a DIR Fundies course, but I think if your diving is compatible with the GUE/DIR gear configuration then it is worthwhile. However there is one hang up I have.
Over the past couple of years I've...
Hi,
If I may add something to the discussion, I just want to point something out for people thinking of getting the RecSea S95 housing.
I use a FIX UWL-04 lens on mine with the FIX M52 lens adapter.
Now originally I baulked at the price as it lists for about US$200 (but you get a discount if...
Hi Vandal,
You'll enjoy yourself for sure. There are some nice diving in Cairns. Customer safety is a top priority so guests are very well looked after (perhaps too much so). The Outer Great Barrier Reef is worth checking out. Way out to Osprey, its simply spectacular and on a luxury live...
Hi Vandal,
I'm not aware of any place that rent just the housing, but some of the large dive operators may rent cameras.
If you're planning on doing liveaboard diving from Cairns I know that Spirit of Freedom and Mike Ball offer rental cameras for $40-$100 per day. These liveaboards go out to...
Hi Vandal,
If you have already bought the Canon S95 (nice camera BTW), the Canon housing (Canon WP-DC38) is excellent value at around US$200 (check online). Overall you'll spend well under a thousand bucks and will take some memorable shots.
I've put together some video footage with a single INON LE 550W mounted just above the fisheye lens (as described in my earlier post).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0Ll6xXs3BA
The video is 720p to use the full capability of the camera.
The shots were taken in clear water (outside of cave)...
Hi diver 85,
There is an INON video on YouTube: YouTube - INON LE550-W LED Light
Another user has also uploaded a couple of test shots with the INON LE 550W
YouTube - ????????
YouTube - ???????
I got my camera mainly for the recent cave diving trip, I can post some video if anybody is...
Hi Nemrod, I will look into blue 242.
Hi Ozziworld,
I do find the screw on the INON Shoe adapter does come a bit loose, but as the plate has a catch I haven't had the shoe adapter fall off.
I have reversed the INON shoe adapter's plate to better position the LE 550W with the UWL-04 lens. The...
Hi all,
I received my RecSea S95 housing just in time for the recent trip and the housing performed wonderfully. Everything worked well, however I have one issue.
I mount a single INON LE 550 video light onto the cold shoe via the INON Shoe adapter but have found that the tiny shoe screws do...
