Baggage Handling with Connecting flights with Cayman Airways

We are thinking of flying American or Delta and connecting with a Cayman Airways flight in Miami or Tampa to GCM Will we have to collect our baggage and re-check it with Cay Air, or will AA or Delta check it all the way through? Thanks for any experience you can share.

Trip Report DiveSergeant Trip Report- Living The Dream Divers and their Ocean Cabanas

GCM April-May Trip Report We made it to Grand Cayman Sunday afternoon, April 24th. Uneventful flights, with four quality hours spent in layover at MIA. Woo-hooo! But I have to say, the tacos we had there for lunch were arguably amongst the best we can remember having. Andy’s Jeep Rental-...

Remove Lithium Batteries for Storage- Perdix AI

Most of the references in the manual speak to alkaline batteries and leakage potential. We user lithiums exclusively. Am I better off to leave the lithiums in for a 6 or so month storage and not risk damage to the o-ring, or remove the batteries and plan to get new o-rings for the computers and...

DiveSergeant's Return to Grenada / Aquanauts Divers

Aquanauts- This is what happens when an already good dive op ups its game. Aquanauts / True Blue Bay Resort- April 2018 It had been nine years since we were last here. We loved it back then and had brought back lots of spices for mom, who is quite into cooking. For years we would gather for...

Travel time by road in the keys

We might do Marathon Key this September but might want to dive a few days in Islamorada. How long will it take to make the drive for a morning dive? I have no idea if traffic is bad in the morning or not, so if someone knows, please clue me in!

    Diving with Scleral Lenses

If you have these you know about them. If not, you probably don't know much about them but probably wouldn't be reading this anyway so I'll not go into what they are, just why I have them and my diving experience with them. Typically these are used for folks with Keratoconus which is not me. My...

    Packing Kydex Back Plate- Flexibility

Hi Tobin, I'm eying a carry-on I have and wonder if I can fit the back plate in. My back plate is about 1" wider than the pack I want to put it into, so it would be flexed a bit. Will a day of being flexed in the pack while I travel cause any harm to the kydex? I'm imagining not, but...never...

DSS Gear- live sighting in the wild...

There are a relatively small number of DSS BP/W setups floating around and I have never seen another one, until yesterday. Imagine my pleasure when I looked across the diveboat here on Bonaire and saw a SS BP with 17 wing. So the other diver and I chatted. We both seem to love our rigs. Buying...

    DiveSergeant Trip Report- Bonaire 2016

I'm too lazy to post separately in multiple forums. We're on Bonaire for two weeks and I do a running report on Bonaire Talk. You may find it here... DiveSergeant 2016 I hope I am allowed to post the link. If not, let me know and I'll go to plan B, with which I have yet to come up...!

Mounting Trim Weights on Kydex Backplate

I dive a kydex BP with a 17 torus wing. I want to put two pounds of trim at the top of the backplate. I've been using a weight pocket on my top tank strap but am tired of messing about with it and want something on the BP, perhaps in the metal, flat-bottomed groove of the plate. Anyone have any...

    Grand Cayman Mini Report

Just back from two great weeks on GCM. I'm too lazy to post all the pictures, but here's a synopsis. Nice weather. We did 9 days of boat diving with Casey at Neptune's, seven days we went to the north wall. The first two days we went west due to wind and waves being up. Random thoughts on...

Loving DSS Kydex BP, but do I need a stainless one now?

Hey Tobin and everyone else, I'm on another dive vacation, and still really liking the kydex BP and 17lb wing. I put 3lbs in a pocket on the top tank strap and that is all I need. So, I have to wonder, how much more negative is the stainless steel large plate compared to the kydex large? I...

    Securing Inflator Hose Grommet

Hi All, My wife has a Transpac and loves it. The issue is the grommet that seals the inflator hose is not secured in place. Thus, it is prone to loss when we remove the inflator hose for rinsing. On other BCDs we have had, the rubber grommet seemed to be secured in place. Is this supposed to...

    Kydex BP/W: Head Banging Solved

Hey, long time no post. But I am back! In the past I have spoken of loving my BP/W with the 17 lbs wing. The only problem was whacking my head on the first stage. I initially solved it by rotating the tank 45 degrees which worked very well. Still, it wasn't the way Tobin designed it, so I...

    Setting up ScubaPro MK25

I've always set up my ScubaPro MK25 so that it is between the tank and my head, with the body of the first stage pointing down, toward the bottom of the tank. Now, someone at a dive shop tells me it is designed to be pointing up. Does it make any difference? The ScubaPro manual seems to have a...
