Trip Report Clearwater Resort - Guanaja: Trip Report

Richard, 1. We don't dive that much in Key Largo anymore, except to "get wet" before a longer trip. The hard and soft corals are definitely much better in Guanaja, mostly because there are so few people on the island and because few divers go there yet. Key Largo has more larger fish, but...

Trip Report Clearwater Resort - Guanaja: Trip Report

We were at Dunbar Rock in April. No bugs because it is off shore. It's like being on a liveaboard. Definitely luxury for divers! All-inclusive; they took care of all gear. I do like coming down in the am to find everything clean, set up the way I want it, and ready to dive. If you want to...

Drift diving is NOT so relaxing!

That's what I usually do. Following crew's instructions. Most of us were holding onto the jerking line with 2 hands. Crew wanted everyone on boat ASAP.

Drift diving is NOT so relaxing!

QUOTE After hundreds of drift dives I have NEVER seen a captain send someone into the water to fetch another diver on the surface. They simply back the boat up to you. It’s called reverse. We have grabbed the ladder many times in 8 foot swells. It’s all about timing and not getting so close the...

    Question about learning deco procedures

I am a very conservative (dive-wise, that is) recreational diver. When I did my AOW, as part of my deep/wreck training (Lake Superior, burr!), I learned the basics of deco. I'm surprised that it isn't taught as part of recreational diving because everyone should know what to do if your...

How I almost drowned -- twice

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." It was challenging diving, to say the least. We were all so exhausted that we kept falling asleep during the guide's after dinner lecture. It was an El Nino year and the currents were crazy and constantly changing. As a relatively new...

How I almost drowned -- twice

I had exactly the same experience in Galapagos. I was with my buddy and DM, watching hammerheads. I was closer to the rock. It was like being in an elevator. My computer was going crazy and I could hear the waves crashing on the rocks. I was afraid that I would get bashed against the rocks...

    Wanted: Information on Grenada

I'm looking forward to Grenada -- never been there. Sorry about the Keys diving. Did you do the Thunderbolt? That's an interesting dive. We live in Key Largo, and in April did a 2-tank just to get wet and check out a new BCD. Algae all over. The reefs there have changed so much.

    Funniest Moments

Diving with a group in Roatan. One of the women found a sea cucumber partially under a coral ledge. She gestured to me that she wanted a photo of her and the sea cucumber. OK. Then she decided to pick it up for a REALLY GOOD photo. The only problem was that it was fastened securely at the...

    Tipping DM in Coz?

We have gone diving with Dive Paradise many times, and have always tipped. Because we have usually gone in a group, we do a group tip for the entire boat at the end of the week. We always have the same DM. We typically do $5/tank for the boat, and an additional tip for DM and anyone else who...

    Wanted: Information on Grenada

We will be diving with Aquanauts I think the third week in November. If you are there, look for two old guys and one gal.

    Dominica after the Hurricane

We planned to go to Dominica last year, but ended up at St. Lucia because of the hurricane. Now we are thinking about trying again. Fort Young Hotel is open, but I'm wondering how the diving is. We were there many years ago and I loved the island, especially all the topside activities. Has...

    Buddy Dive Dominica Closing

We were to go to Dominica last Nov. Ended up in St Lucia. Dove at Castle Comfort many years ago. Loved the diving and the afternoon hikes. Was looking forward to returning.

    Thimble jelly larvae have arrived

My allergist gave me a selection of steroid creams of different strengths and a strong hydro cortisone cream when he saw how I react to them.

    Weight of SCUBAPRO BCD?

Thank you! Then the Glide X must be even heavier than the Equalizer. I think some of the weights I have been seeing are just the BC, not with BPI or Air 2.

    Weight of SCUBAPRO BCD?

I'm looking at the GO and the EQUALIZER. I can't find weight on these on-line. Or rather, I find varying weights. Size small, what do they weight. I ordered a GLIDE X and it's too big and bulky for me. Need jacket BCD, would rather not do back inflate.

    Purchasing New BC

The Glide X arrived two days ago. It definitely has all the features I wanted, but it is heavy! Not back at square 1, but almost there. Also looking at the Equalizer, which weighs less. Thanks for the suggestion about the Go.

    Purchasing New BC

My old faithful ScubaPro BC finally died. I'm looking at a new BC, and would welcome input. I don't want a BP/W. I am 73, female, AOW (lots of specialties), over 1,000 dives (stopped counting). I don't do deep, dark, and cold anymore. Strictly warm water. Take pictures of pretty fish. 2-3...

    Women and Reef Hooks

We will be in Yap and Palau. There are a few dives there that do require use of a reef hook. I do understand theoretically how it would work. This is the kind of dive I would go over in my head a number of times, watch videos, and watch out for Murphy. I would want a plan. What if I can't...
