Mistaken identity: travel and deco gas mixup

Permanent marking might work most of the time, but I guess in my case (where tanks are shared quite often between friends) correctly labeling BEFORE filling instead of afterwards might reduce some risk. All the tanks were analysed directly after filling by myself and contents were written...

Mistaken identity: travel and deco gas mixup

In this case it didn't, because tanks are user for different gasses, MOD labels are put on the tank when they were analysed. Keeping the same tanks for the same mix would help. But I already have too many of them ;)

Mistaken identity: travel and deco gas mixup

While this would work with an analyser that you connect to the valve, most of the times oxygen content is analysed with a hand held device that you hold in front of the valve. Good policy on their part though! In this case fill/analysis labels were attached to the valve by rubber band and...

Mistaken identity: travel and deco gas mixup

It’s early november when a group of divers visit the Lot region in southern France for some cave diving. Cars loaded with tanks and gear they arrive at the guesthouse and unload all but the necessary gear for the next day. The tanks for the next day are again analysed, labeled and stages...

    Apeks XTX50?

Great reg for any dive! I use the ATX40 with a DIN DS4 first stage in water temps down to 0'C / 32F. If you want to safe a few $$ you could consider XTX's predecessor, the ATX50 or even the ATX40 if you don't need the adjustment knob (you don't =D). If you can afford it, the new XTX's (2013...

    Suggestions for 2 days cozumel

Back from Mexico :) Had a wonderful trip and my visit to Cozumel was a brilliant ending. We stayed at Aldora Divers / Villa Adora and had a great time there. They'll put every effort in making your stay as good as it gets and the diving was awesome. Accommodation is clean, well taken care of and...

    Suggestions for 2 days cozumel

Hi All, I'm planning for a short 2-day diving trip to Cozumel after 2,5 weeks of cave diving in Tulum. We'll be with 5p and driving 2 cars. We're looking for accomodation for 2 or 3 nights (flying home around 20h on January 25 from cancun). Not sure yet about going from Tulum to Cozumel in the...

    Permanently illuminated dive computer?

I use a Mares M2, it's no longer available but a used one might be on ebay. It has a pretty big screen and can be used with a constant back lit display. It uses user replaceable AAA batteries. Best of all, it's cheap and works great. (But looks a bit dated...)

    Filter Stack Plans/Design

They use a different kind (larger and designed for longer runtimes) of compressor and filter. The P21 is indeed only for ±15 hours of use. They are relatively cheap though.

How much air for a CESA

Yhanshin is wondering 'what if the **** hits the fan'. I think that is a good thing. Knowone and Greyhoud have a fair point: don't run out of air.. But seriously, **** happens (blown o-ring, etc) and kudo's to Yhanshin for wondering and asking questions. To answer the OP's question, in theory...

    Standard vs Metric

Those differences have caused so many problems... time for all to switch to metric ;) And if the whole world could speak one language, that would be nice as well - preferably Dutch but English is fine too :P But a conversion concept for BAR's? It's the factor the gas is compressed to fit in its...

    100% 02 during your SI?

Anything? Really? How about having nothing to breath at all? ;) But indeed, please consider training before playing around with stages and high ppO2 mixes. DAN has some nasty statistics on gas switches gone wrong..

1st stage locked on tank valve (dumbest thing I've done in a while)

There are none. Just a tank with a valve :) It could be that because of the much higher burst pressure of steel tanks there is no need. OTOH, I've seen Alu tanks without one as well. Hear hear! :P

How do you make yourself less bouyant?

Could it also be that experience did those 'wonders'? TSandM has a good point, on your total inertia of 170 lbs + gear 1 or 2 lbs is not going to make a noticeable difference. If you carry TOO MUCH weight - as you apparently did with 12 lbs, you'll have to compensate by putting more air in...

Almost went into deco off Islamorada

Read Bob's article about it... NWGratefulDiver.com Also, a dive computer with an alarm function would be a good investment i guess.. :dontknow:

CHEAPEST PLACE IN THE WORLD to become a Divemaster?

A friend of mine got her SSI 'Dive Control Specialist' course ('assistant instructor') for 'free' at Reef Safari in Airlie Beach (Australia). You could contact them. Mind you, they expect you to work long days for your 'free' course.. nothing in life comes for free. But she had a great time...

    Super stiff Cam bands

Take them diving.. as often as possible ;) Soaking in water prior to use makes them easier to use, but not a lot.

    EAN Class

Hi Nautica, the only prerequisite is an OW certification from ANY agency. Some OW-courses even include a basic nitrox certification. Also, specialties from agency A can be used to gain a AOW certification with agency B. It might make things a little bit more complicated or more expensive as you...

    Uwatec Aladin Air

As far as i remember there is no backlight on an Aladin Air. So use your divelight to light up the display :) Long time since i've had my hands on one, so could be wrong, but the manual doens't mention anything about it either. (aladin air manual - Google zoeken).
