Dive Aurora Sun 5-17-09? Need Buddy

Hey BigBubbaJ and mblake, nice running in to you guys and meeting you today! Blake, you earn the Coldman award for diving wet ;) Maybe next time I'll have diving gear with me instead of being on the bike, but I'm still gonna wait for a bit for it to warm up.

Memorial Day Weekend at Blue Hole

Me and my buddy are heading to the Blue Hole over the Memorial Day weekend. Just seeing if anybody is planing a trip there on that weekend. It would be nice to meet some of you, and get some time underwater.

St. Rosa's Stella's Compressor Still Down; We're Going Next Weekend

As much as I'd like to be there, I can't make it this weekend. I'm probably gonna head there in about 3 weeks, as my regular dive partners wife is out of town. If any of you guys want to go back and look at some crawdads, carp, and golf balls, let me know :D

    Jet Fins Vs Colt 1911

If the threat is neutralized, why would your finger be still on the trigger? If you think there is a possible threat still out there, you wouldn't re-holster your gun. I had to draw on a bear once when hunting, and believe me, the gun didn't get re-holstered for a very long time, even after...

    Open water movie ?

I've never seen the it, but my Mom watched this movie and started freaking out about my diving. She was really worried until I told her about safety procedures and showed her some actual diving videos. I might have to watch it just to laugh at how absurd it actually is.

    Are we really the minority??

Rakkis, what's on your right shoulder in that first pic? It looks like a soda can. I understand the need to go diving in cold weather like that, and I'm probably about to. I haven't had the chance to get under since October and it's driving me nuts.

Split fins, AND Braveheart music? You're definitely gonna die :dork2: The video needs more shark footage though.

Top Ten Tips for New Divers

#1. Learn to stay off the bottom – way off the bottom. Kinda hard to kneel when there's no surface to kneel on ;)

    Redesigning AOW

These are all very good ideas for AOW. The problem that I have with AOW is that you can start training at 12 OW dives (not get your cert, but begin the training, for SSI I think the cert comes after 24 dives). I was no where near experienced at 12 dives to do a night dive/ lim viz dive, nav...

Backup Gauge when using Air Integrated Computer?

I dive with 2 computers every dive, but still carry a backup analog gauge. I've got an AI SmartCom as my primary, and a wrist mounted Alladin Prime as my backup. I decided I need the backup after my SmartCom failed on me after 4 dives. I use the prime as my backup, but as it's not AI, I...

    Getting back in the water

I'd recommend taking the refresher course. I just got back into diving this year because one of my buddies took a course and pushed me back into diving. I’ve had my c-card since ’93 but hadn’t been diving for about 8 years. We went down to the Blue Hole in NM, and did some skills at around...

Can't believe what I am seeing...

Son of a B..... Now I have to give up shrimp. If you take crab and lobster away from me, (And I know you will :(,) I'm gonna be seriously depressed.

    not sure now

I'm gonna agree with everybody's posts so far in this thread. Keep diving, take more classes, and/or find a great mentor. The more you dive, the more there is to experience and learn. And experience + learning = less accidents. Also read about accidents and learn what went wrong. Think...

    Turquoise Lake Aug 25th?

I'm just curious, what is your dive plan for this? Do you include deco gas because of the altitude? Or go to straight O2 after the dive? I've never dived high altitude (above Chatfield) and am wondering if gas planning plays a major roll into a dive like this. Sounds like a fun dive, but...

Have you ever dove ZERO viz?

EWWWW! I wouldn't do this dive in full biohazard gear. Forget $1000, start talking $20,000/min.

Have you ever dove ZERO viz?

If I had had 2-3 foot viz, it would've been no problem at all. I've done those dives many times before. But after reading all these responses, I'm really glad I called the dive. Surface supplied air...steel toe boots...blacked out masks...being way negative....way out of my experience range.

Have you ever dove ZERO viz?

Yea, not a very pleasant dive. I’ve been silted out before as well, but I’ve never dove stuff like this. I knew the bottom was 10’-12’, but not being able to see my hand till I touched my mask really made me uneasy. If I was getting paid A LOT of money to do this dive, I might have pushed...
