    Mares Force dive watch service

I am a dive instructor and was given a Mares Force dive watch at a shop I used to work for. It recently stopped working and given my present location at Seacamp on Big Pine Key, and the lack of time off in my foreseeable schedule (lots of training to do) I was wondering what the best course to...

    Going BP/w question

Having previously owned and dove Halcyon BPs and wings I have to say they make great stuff, but they do have a hefty price tag. I had my stuff stolen awhile back and replaced everything with DSS gear. I have yet to have any complaints about any of Tobin's stuff, even after putting 100s of dive...

Best place to get certified in the Austin area?

Though you might since I'm a bit out of the loop since I moved to Florida in Sept., I would definitely recommend either Tom's Scuba or Oak Hill. I have worked with both in the past and have nothing but good things to say about them.

    Key West diving

I don't remember exactly where the Keys Ambassador is, but I did a few dives a couple weeks ago with Dive Key West and they ran a great operation. I did a write-up about the trip on my website ... heres the link: Prestige Dive Training - Diving the Vandenberg

    PADI Deep Diver Specialty

It all depends on what you are looking for and what you hope to gain out of the class. Specialties such as night, deep, etc. do serve a purpose in guiding you through the experience and helping you learn techniques you may not have acquired yet. Of course, what will make the course truly...

Anyone ever mount pockets on your tank?

I think the issue you are going to run into is how easy is it to access these items in an emergency ... I've always found pockets on your wetsuit/drysuit work better

    BP/W: I officially don't get it

So... to add my .02. To start off with I learned how to dive in a jacket-style BC, however the first BC I bought was a BP/W ... since then I have owned nothing else (Started with a Halcyon, now have 3 DSS). I prefer to dive BP/W and prefer to teach BP/W (both as what I am wearing and as...

Suunto SK7 - either compass for mount?

Just to add some first hand experience ... I bought the Add On version to put in Tobin's boot Like Michael said ... use extreme care popping the compass out ... you would hate to bust the compass trying to force it out of the original housing. Personally I let it sit in warm water for awhile...

What spring straps fit Mares Volo Power?

XS Scuba makes a set of spring straps that comes with 3 different attachment options ... one of them works with the Mares fins

    Dive computer/depth gauge

Personally I would go wrist-mount ... I like the display and ease of use of the Cressi Archimede II ... plus you can find great deals on it sometimes. Of course the DiveRite Nitek Duo family is always a good option as well.

I drank the GUE Fundies Kool-Aid and survived!!

I just had the time to read the entire thread and I must say: first, thank you to ScubaSam for posting it ... second, as others have said there are always those who will detract from things, no matter what they are. My own experience with DIR divers has always been that they are...

    Running with Scissors

To jump back directly to the OP's question ... Self-reliance, self-rescue, and underwater problem solving should ALWAYS be taught. The buddy system should not be a system that abandons this ... as it unfortunately appears to be in the recreational scuba world. The ideal buddy system is two...

Long hose for a new diver

To answer the OPs post directly... The problem here depends on what it is you as a diver want. If you want to start with a "long hose" set-up more power to you (I prefer teaching that set-up starting at the OW level). The problem is that not all instructors or divers will no how to handle...

Trip Report from Ton of Steel Trip with American Diving

It may have taken three attempts, but I finally got down to South Padre Island and was able to dive the Texas Clipper with American Diving. This trip has been in planning since last November. The first trip did not make because there were not enough divers to fill the boat. The second trip...

    Anyone get sick with Nitrox?

what you might want to consider ... as randy mentioned is that it might not be the nitrox mixture. yes nitrox does lower the nitrogen content of your gas ... but you still have to be aware of it. i''m not making a knock towards the OP or anyone in particular, but it has been my observation...

    Valve Drill Sequence
