Question Help w/ Unusual Recurring Frontal Sinus Squeeze (Only Happens After Ascending, and Then Re-Descending)

Agree with DDM. I have and dealt with chronic sinus problems my entire diving career. Your body can, and will, change over time. 2 things I do to help. 1. Descend.....slowly.....really, really slowly. You can't equalize sinuses. They are kind of like a balloon with a small opening. The smaller...

    Battery Charging Station?

Uh, unless the whole system it quite dead, even plugged in it could have a minor parasitic draw. I'd highly recommend you check that if you are going to use it that way. If you put everything (lithium) about 50% (around 3.7v on a single 18650), and NOT hooked up to anything you can pretty much...

    Battery Charging Station?

+ Many on what @TBone said. He knows his lithium. Lithium batteries have a very high voltage retention rate if the device they are in does not have parasitic drain. You can find that out by charging to a KNOWN/MEASURED voltage, put it in the device, and check it a month later. If it looses...

To lube or not to lube?

Depends on the BCD. I had a Zeagle that was truly awful. Fine white threads. Difficult to start and see. Many others, not much of an issue with reasonable care.

Rant about the racket made by scuba regulators!!!

I also dislike the noise, a lot. Pretty much what @Nemrod says. I wear Docs ProPlugs with vent and a hood, even in the tropics. Extra benefit - keeps water out of the ears and cuts down on the probability of ear infection.

    Student lost - Seattle, Washington

Vis can be as little as 2', normal is 10-15', anything over 20' is considered pretty good there. Silty bottom, easy to kick up, and it takes a good while to settle out. Did my OW1 there a couple decades ago. Surface down to 15' the 2nd day was about a foot. Probably 20' under that until the...

Sea & Sea Fiber Cable in Kailua-Kona [need now 7/31]

Try to shine a regular bright (dive) light through it. If a bright dot does not appear on the other end, it's broken. They tend to break right at the end where it goes into the plug part. You might be able to tell by wiggling suspicious area carefully. Some, not all, cables have an end that...

New reg leaking about 1 bubble a second

Yes. Your 2nd stage has an adjustment knob to change the ease of breathing. Try turning it in about 1/2 turn. That will probably stop it. If not, repeat. This is an excellent time to have an intermediate pressure gauge, to make SURE the problem is not the first stage exceeding it's proper...

Any recommendations for Cozumel doctor who understands diving and nasal/sinus blocks?

Absolutely agree with @ggunn. If people.....can.....go 10 feet and equalize they likely don't realize that at least some partial equalization is going on in between. Much more than 4-6 feet, especially in the top depths is risking blowing your eardrums out. I don't have much problem with ear...

Any recommendations for Cozumel doctor who understands diving and nasal/sinus blocks?

I've dealt with sinus squeeze most of my dive career, 25+ years. Showed up on my OW1 dives and has been a constant companion since. As stated, if you abuse the sinuses going down, you may pay a heavier price coming up. Free diving can be much worse since you place pressure on the sinuses at a...

Hood vs earplugs for preventing infections

Doc's ProPlugs work great. Been using them for 20+ years. Make sure they fit. Make sure the equalization port is open. I suggest something like a little mineral, baby, or olive oil in the ear before the dive. Coat the canal, make it a bit more waterproof. Use ear beer ASAP after getting out of...

Which Scubapro piston 1st stage is the overall best?

This should be interesting if the guys that know the inside workings and design modifications weigh in. Got a MK20 also. IP creep is a fairly constant problem. MK2, 5 and 10, simpler to work on (fewer parts) and IP creep is (generally) not an issue. Serviced properly, they just work. MK20 I...

    Glue choices

I'd try MEK/Methylethylketone. Nasty stuff, VERY volatile, use with PLENTY of ventilation. It will remove almost anything.....except aquaseal.

18650 and others battery issue (not charging)

Reminder: Because of the inherent resistance of the sliders, internal resistance can be somewhat erratic in these kind of chargers. Consider it to be a rough guide. Make sure the battery terminals are clean, the battery is well positioned, and it's useful to do multiple test and try different...

18650 and others battery issue (not charging)

The Opus gets a lot of grief about the little fan. It's easy to lube, and you can change it out for better if you want. I've had one for years, probably overall my best charger, and I have a mess of them. The fan helps cool the charge allowing higher charge and discharge settings than similar...

18650 and others battery issue (not charging)

Agree with @tbone1004. With a basic charger like that you can charge successfully, but you don't really know much about the battery other than "go, no go". Some chargers do have a 'save' function for over discharged batteries. OTOH, over discharge is not good for NiXX and is REALLY BAD for...

Comment by 'fmerkel' in media 'Black long fish from Maui'

Yes, barracuda. It's being cleaned (see tiny fish in mouth). Can they color shift for cleaning? Never seen one in that situation.

    Glue choices

I'd say then that PB-300 and DAP are in the same category, contact cement, but certainly not the same product. PB-300 is certainly more expensive. No idea about comparison for dry suit repair and seal mounting.

    Glue choices

PB-300 that I've used is clear and not too thick. The DAP Weldwood I've used is opaque and a creamy tan, nothing like PB-300. It's been awhile since I've used either. Have there been changes?
