French Polynesia: time to spend in Fakarava and Rangiroa

We used both Top Dive and The 6 Passengers on Rangiroa. Top Dive when the Paul Gauguin stopped there for the day and The 6 Passengers when we spent another 6 nights there. Top Dive provided Nitrox to everybody, certified or not. Although it has now been 6+ years Top Dive has had some...

    TG-6

I usually only complete a few dives on each vacation but snorkel extensively. I just purchased the TG6 but I am not photography enabled. I will not use this for diving but would like to get the most out of it when snorkeling. From my reading multiple reviews the auto function is the worst...

    Snorkelling in French Polynesia

Snorkeling is great in Bora Bora but you really need to be out in the lagoon. the excursion Pure Snorkeling by Reef Discovery is great. The drift snorkeling in Rangiora was also very good.

Windstar Cruise - Wind Spirit from Papeete - advice please

Not sure if this helps but we have been on the Paul Gauguin 4 times out of Tahiti. They offered a varied scheduled including Rangiroa on some schedules. Jean Michel Cousteau also is about a few times each year. Listening to his talks and diving with him were great.

French Polynesia - Best And Worst Times To Go?

We have been to French Polynesia 4 times. I would avoid the November - March time frame as that is the rainy season.

    Moorea in July

We have been to French Polynesia 4 times, most recently in June 2015. Moorea is a great place both for land and sea adventures. If you want to stay at a resort you can't beat the Hilton. The overwater bungalows are spectacular and the snorkeling is beyond belief. The diving is good but not...

I have a different opinion. I have been a Nationally Registered Paramedic and NYS Paramedic for more than 30 years. I currently teach the EMT and the Paramedic program. I am also an instructor in multiple disciplines including American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and PALS. The ACLS and PALS...

    Bora Bora and Moorea

We will be at the Hilton in June before our Paul Gauguin Cruise. It will be our 4th visit. Spectacular snorkeling in the lagoon at the Hilton. After our prior trips we have yet to go to the lagoonararium but we will do so on this trip. The last time we were there at the Hilton, 2 years ago...

By chance, anyone doing Rangiroa--in particlar Kia Ora & Top Dive--middle of May '15

We were at the Kia Ora 2 years ago for 6 nights and did dive with Top Dive. They pick you up at the pier at the hotel and their shop is only a 2 minute walk down the beach. Next to their shop is a very small hut that serves lunch. Only a couple of options like burgers but their prices are...

    Diving and Relaxation Recommendations?

From your requirements I would suggest you take a look at Matangi Island in Fiji. This is a small resort, adults only. The bures have air conditioning, they have a lovely pool, all inclusive, with staff who will do anything to help. They offer snorkeling and diving and the diving was...

    French Polynesia - Advice Please

We did 4 nights Moorea, a 10 night Paul Gauguin Cruise and then 6 nights Rangiora staying at the Kia Ora in July. Both land stays were in overwater units. I am not a die hard diver. The cruise also stopped at Rangiora for 1 day and I also did dives on that day. It was great to dive with Jean...

We returned last week. We were on a Paul Gauguin cruise that visited Rangiroa and then we returned toRangiroa staying 6 nights at the Kia Ora. From the ship they arranged the dives and I did 2 dives with Top Dive. There were 25 divers in 3 zodiacs and each group had between 4 and 6 divers per...

Canon WP-DC35 Housing for S90 Camera

I have used this housing for about 3 years for about 40 dives in total. It is in great shape but I can't say the same thing for the camera which fell out of the boat when it was not in the housing:(. If you are interested $75 will buy the housing. For an extra $20 I will throw in the camera and...

    South Pacific cruise diving

We have completed 2 Paul Gauguin cruises and our third is in June. The first was 11 nights including French Polynesia and the Cook Islands. Due to the distance from NY we stayed 4 nights pre cruise on Moorea and did some dives with Top Dive. They are very good. The diving in Moorea is good...

Dive Operator with Beach Access - 1 Day from Cruise Ship

We are in Cozumel from the Oceania Regatta on 1/9/2013 and I would love to arrange for a dive. My wife does not dive. Ideal would be a dive operator based at a nice resort/beach with chairs and umbrellas where my wife can hang out while I dive. Any suggestions??

    Fiji Diving

We were in the region this past January on a cruise from Australia to Tahiti. We had to dodge two cyclones araound New Caledonia as well as Fiji. IMHO just as I would advise against the Carribean during hurricane season it is a real gamble to visit the South Pacific in that region during...

    Tips for Diving Tahiti

We have been to the region three times. Going again next year. Your flight from the states will land in Tahiti probably on an Air Tahiti Nui flight. While Tahiti is interesting I would suggest you leave Tahiti ASAP simply because it is not the tropical island of your dreams. It is pretty...

    Savusavu Dive

I will be stopping in Savusavu from a cruise ship in early February and would like to find a place to do a two tank dive. The ship has arranged an excursion with the Sonaisali Resport but at $195.00 US for a two tank dive this sounds a little pricey. I did visit Matangi Island about six months...

Fiji Trip Report - Matangi Island

I just returned from 8 nights at Matangi and it was great. Not inexpensive and a challenge to get there from the East Coast of the US. I did 9 dives with them and Ally, their divemaster was great. I am a novice diver with 25 dives completed prior to this trip but the diving was spectacular.
