    Kona Manta Dive

Unfortunately, I can't give a review. Dive was cancelled due to rough seas. We had booked with Kona Diving Company and they seemed nice. Weather just wasn't permitting.

    Kona Manta Dive

Thanks again all! After not being able to find a single negative review for Kona Diving Company, I booked with them for Sunday. So far, my experience has been pretty positive. I'll let you all know how it goes.

    Kona Manta Dive

Thanks all! Tried reading reviews on Yelp and saw too many bad ones to really make a decision. I dove the Mantas before, but by a shore dive from the hotel where they used to shine the lights. Taking my boyfriend who has never dove them before and, as he is a newer diver, would like a decent...

    Kona Manta Dive

Any recommendations on an operation to use for a Manta night dive in Kona?

    Not a dive question really...

Pretty much because it's always been where all the jobs are for the aforementioned reasons.

Photographer's rant...when someone says, "nice pics, you must have a good camera!"

While folks do sometimes get good shots with a cheap camera, the right equipment (and knowing how to use it) increases the probability of getter a better shot. Certainly, there is an artistic element that is the photographer's eye, but any good photographer will tell you that they take lots and...

    Electric Beach

The diving is so much better from that side than Kahe Point, as well!

Jack's Diving Locker Kama'aina Rate discussion - split from Kama'aina Rates thread

Loyalty doesn't mean a whole lot to a business that can't keep its doors open. And comparing the diving community here to that of the Big Island is like comparing apples to grapes. Kona is primarily a tourist destination and obviously Jack's takes in enough business to keep their doors open at...

Why are so many female divers codependent?

Honey, that is one arena I wouldn't be willing to make sacrifices to compete in!:D In actuality, you've achieved some real gender equity in at least one arena. After all, it shouldn't be just the guys with some PYT (pretty, young thang!) hanging on their arm!;)

Jack's Diving Locker Kama'aina Rate discussion - split from Kama'aina Rates thread

Even if they own their own boats, they still have to pay a captain, fuel and upkeep. Their losses for empty seats may be even greater than for a shop owner who is paying for just the seats. Jack's has quite a long and positive reputation, they may not need to be as cut throat as some of the...

Jack's Diving Locker Kama'aina Rate discussion - split from Kama'aina Rates thread

Discussion split from this thread Could be that those are shop insiders. Not employees but employee spouses or SO's or customers who more than frequent the shop, but those that lend a willing hand when needed. For that they may get thrown such bone as getting the boat dive for the shop cost...

Why are so many female divers codependent?

It strikes me that the person asking the question is the very person who should be answering the question. She, admittedly, was that co-dependent female diver for quite a long time before she wised up. Instead of asking others to explain it to her, she should shine an introspective light on her...

Why are so many female divers codependent?

I think that this is just a symptom of a greater societal problem. Nowadays, way too many operators are will to sacrifice the quality of their training in search of the almightly dollar. After all, if you don't pass them, you can't sell them gear and that is where the money is. Sad!

    Underwhelmed by Oahu Dive Op

You might think it’s harsh, but guess what, in business you never get a second chance in business to make a first impression. Furthermore, people who are reasonably satisfied with a retail experience usually don’t walk around talking about what a great experience they had. On the...

    Underwhelmed by Oahu Dive Op

While it is nice that the owner is addressing the issue, this is one consumer who wouldn't be so quick to give him a pass. To me the attitude of everyone associated with the business that day doesn't give me confidence that I would risk a single day of an 8 day vacation on again. The degree...

    Underwhelmed by Oahu Dive Op

Really sorry to hear that! Glad that you had a good time overall in your trip. While we all have bad days and businesses are hurting right now, I think it has to be said, IMHO, that this experience goes beyond that. Things don't always go right every day for everyone, but to me the most...
