    Maine Scallop season

    Yes! Having the recreational licenses has been a blast. Though the changes over the past several years make it harder to find them. Last year Blue Hill Bay was crazy with draggers, so it was almost too dangerous to dive.

    Maine Divers Scuba Center or Aqua Diving Academy are the 2 places I know of in the Portland Area. You may be able to find a local instructor too.

    That was me that would have added you then as I am the primary admin for that group. If you get up this way Eddie almost always runs a Sunday 2 tank dive charter off of his boat.

    Solo diving in Maine ?

    Diver Ed is teaching a PADI Self-Reliant Diver (solo) courses in Bar Harbor. A lot of us dive solo when we scallop dive in the winter and as far as I know there are no rules againist it.

    Scallop's ??? Maine coast ???

    FYI... Maine scallop season usually runs from Decemeber to April. So the season is now closed. I can tell you as a recreational diver, you'll need a license from the DMR and can only take half a gallon per day (2 quart bags). Last season was rough as most of the areas were closed.

    I'd be up for meeting in Eastport. Our dive club, The League of Underwater Superheroes makes a few trips per year to Eastport. COJO Diving out of Fredericton comes over to Eastport as well. They also dive Deer Island on the Canadian side. There is so many awesome things to see up that way...

    gbirch has it right... Diver Ed is currently running Sunday dive charters. We just did dives out at Egg Rock Lighthouse this past week. Eastport has some amazing diving as well. Cheers! Joe

    Weird Dive

    That is weird... I once found a large Pelican box on the bottom in 40' water when I was scallop diving off of Mount Desert Island. When we finally got it back on the boat there was much excitement... Pelican Box=waterproof. When we opened it all that was in there was a big granite rock. So...
