    Omni Swivel

I have a swivel on my SP 109 primary with a 36" hose, routing it under my arm. Mu secondary is on a necklace with a 30" hose. In an air sharing situation, the person I share with gets my primary and I use the secondary. The extra length on the primary hose makes sharing and ascending together...

Oldschool - We Sometimes Know So Little

On April 22nd, while vacationing in Hawaii, I received a call from a long time dive buddy. A diver's body had been found in Stillhouse Hollow Lake in Belton, Texas the day before. Upon my return, I discovered that the diver was Bob Tarbet. Bob had contacted me last year after seeing my name...

Oahu Report April 20 Thru 27

My wife and I just returned form a week's vacation in Oahu. We lived there (Ft Shafter) from 1990 to 1994 so this was more of a trip down memory lane than anything else. I did however have the chance to make three outstanding boat dives with Kaimana Divers. Because of unavoidable boat issues...

    Looking For Travel Fins

I also have the F2's and have used them in Bonaire and like them very much. I'll be bringing them with me to Hawaii in two weeks and will get the chance to check them out in heavier current. They are very lightweight and easy to pack because of the reduced length.

    Equipment Tags ?

Living close to Ft Hood, TX, dog tags are easy to get. I've had several made up with name and emergency info (phone number, blood type, religious preference, etc.) on them. I have one zip tied to my BC and one on my first stage.

    Warm Water Gloves?

My suggestion is to go to Harbor Freight and for $7.00 by a pair of their "Western Safety" gloves. I've had the same pair now for over five years and they are perfect for warm water diving. Remove the labeling and I would be hard pressed to distinguish them from the $30.00 plus "scuba" gloves...

    Smallest reel for DSMB?

I got one of those Buddy Reels for Christmas. I will be using it to tow my dive flag (solo diver). I haven't gotten the chance to use it yet but will be testing it out in Hawaii in April. Someone was asking about a U.S retailer. Northeast Scuba has them.

ACK! My Hair... It was short, now it's longer and now I can't see...

Oh, only to have that problem. I wear a do-rag to keep the sun off of my bald head on the surface and for quick recognition underwater. Plus it makes me feel like the "rebel" I used to be forty years ago.

    Most versatile wetsuit wardrobe

The majority of my diving is in local lakes year round. Temps range from lower 80's in peak summer to upper 50's in winter. I have a 5 mil Scubapro Everflex one piece, a 3 mil Akona Quantumstretch (my favorite), and a 2 mil neosport shorty. I have used the 2 mil shorty over the 3 mil for 5...

    Core Warmer recommendations?

I don't know if this is exactly what you are looking for but check out Lavacore. I have heard excellent things about using their suits under a wetsuit for additional thermo protection. I just have the hood now which is really warm but intend on getting a full suit.

    Diver etiquette

Just asking for the etiquette tips speaks well of your character. You will do just fine. I wish others I have dived with over the years had taken the time to ask.

    Teaching in TX mud baths

Personally, I think learning to dive in such conditions is a plus. If a diver, especially a new diver, can learn to have confidence in their abilities under these conditions, diving under optimal conditions will be a walk in the park. Besides, you can never truly appreciate great diving until...

Right in my back yard (almost)

Yes, this is kind of lengthy but I think it is good info, especially for anyone looking for a new dive spot and I didn't want to put all of this in the dive condition thread. Yesterday, I made two dives in Lake Belton. It is about ten minutes from my home. Lake Belton does not have a good...

    SMB Pouch bag

Dive Rite has a pouch that straps to your thigh. I use it to stow my lift bag but the smb and reel would fit easily. Check Dive Right In Scuba or Diver's Supply websites. I'm certain other sites have them as well.
