Regular quarry diver found dead - Falling Rock Park, Kentucky

Very sad event. I have dived may times at FRP although don't dive there often. My reading of the media report above in says that the victim built a "home brew rebreather" but doesn't indicate that is what he was diving at the time of the incident. I associate "shallow water hypoxia" with...

Necessity of Dive Computer for new diver

Buy a cheap used computer. One poster mentioned a favorite of mine - the Veo180NX of which I have a several that I have bought used and are in my student rental gear. I have many different computers (Shearwater, Oceanic, Liquivision, DiveRite) but I still require tables in the scuba class I...

Cannot find a reason for AOW certification

I was amused when it went the other way on me once. I am an instructor and certified through trimix. I went to board a charter at a Sandal's resort in the Bahamas and the DM pulled me aside and wanted me to demonstrate skills in the little 4' pool they had next to the dock. I amiably complied...

    AT-Pac Restoration

Thanks Sam. I did indeed work to keep the original ScubaPro sticker in place. It also had a "Watergill At-Pac" American Flag sticker on it. It was pretty torn up just from use but I kept the remnants and have a friend in the sign business who is making me a replica of the original. Eastern...

    AT-Pac Restoration

Finally believe I have my 1975 AtPac ready to get wet! Received the correct parts from OMS/DUI - a bladder, two OPV valves (which are inaccessible on this unit), inflator hose and mechanism, various double-seals, etc. Oh, and two free hats! Did some more color restoration on the outside shell...

    Diving for pain relief?

Two years ago I had an acute problem with my back. I'm sure it happened as I was walking on the golf course and slung my bag over my shoulders awkardly. The pain was excruciating, difficult to walk at times, forget lifting much. Couldn't play golf which I used to play several times a week. Went...

    AT-Pac Restoration

Still working on it - I've had a pretty hard time getting the correct order filled from OMS/DUI. the first bladder they sent had the inflator port center back - I specifically asked for a bladder with an offset port, the rep said they eyeballed it and it was correct. Not so. I talked to...

    AT-Pac Restoration

As with most things - two steps forward, one step back. Treated the shell of my AT-Pac with hair products containing hydrogen-peroxide 12% and have returned my white shell back to white from the nasty yellow it had turned. Also received the bladder from OMS/DUI, but it was the wrong bladder...

    AT-Pac Restoration

No worries. Very similar experience. I actually did my certification dives in the At-Pac in Key Largo (lived in Miami) in 1975, although all of our confined water training was in Horsecollars. Next time I went back to get on a charter at Pennekamp they had a sign hanging in the dive shed that...

    Deep 6 Fin comparison

I am considering a pair of Deep 6 fins primarily for the orange color so my students can more easily identify me by my fins. Plus they have spring straps which I like. The question is - they basically look like Jets. Are they as heavy as Jets? How does the foot pocket sizing compare to Jets?
