    Tech course

I dunno about you, but getting a tech coarse sounds painful and unnecessary. A tech course on the other hand... Sorry :D

Do you have to use a wet suit?

Lol, I did consider writing "get a DS" as well, but thought that is absolute and utter crap :)

Do you have to use a wet suit?

This is OT, but JahJah that is one of the funniest posts I have read on SB to date. RJP's posts are normally funny (to me) but that is a classic. He must've been in the zone when he wrote that. Thanks for the link in your sig. I needed a good laugh today.

Do you have to use a wet suit?

First couple of times you squeeze in and out of a suit are a real pain. It is long, painful, you will hate it and you will likely get very hot and bothered in the process. It does become a lot easier with time though and you will have your own little process/method for donning and doffing a...

1st time in Dry Suit and Floating Feet

Also, when you take your DS to OW don't forget to vent often on ascent :) That is my personal mantra & comes from two unpleasant experiences of runaway ascents. I take it you're not taking a DS class?

1st time in Dry Suit and Floating Feet

Also, pool diving in a DS is tough. My first pool session in my DS was horrible. If you do have floaty feet, get ankle weights or jets with spring straps. They will make a huge difference.

Help before I take the plunge on BP/W rig

I have a setup similar to yours and would recommend you go with a hog harness. You dont need all the padding, etc of the deluxe models. Also, dont worry about an STA. Latest Mach V wings (like mine) have roll control. The tank will be rock-solid without an STA.

    Dive Operators in Phuket?

Their boat was bigger. Their dive masters gave a more thorough briefing. Their dives were better organised. Just my impression. I only did about 2 dives with each op. Those were my first ever dives so I could be completely wrong :)

    Deep, Deeper, Freakin' Deep!

Lol "you first" indeed. Not saying it's easy as in anyone can do it, just less amazing than same depth in OW.

    Dive Operators in Phuket?

Marina Divers in Karon and Scuba Cat in Patong are good - I've dived with both of them (got certed by Scuba Cat). Marina comes off as more professional than SC.

    Deep, Deeper, Freakin' Deep!

I see. Thanks for clearing this up. So the COMEX stuff is just pushing the boundaries in terms of pressure on the human body. There are no other "complications" that exist in OW diving - equipment, nature, support, etc. Isn't that easy then? Going to 700m in a chamber just means that the...

    Deep, Deeper, Freakin' Deep!

Let me get this right - these were divers in a submersible or similar? I mean these guys weren't wearing drysuits, right? I am imagining a chamber of some sort with all the life support functions, etc lowered to those depths? If that is the case, then what's the big deal? Did man already travel...

Thanks everyone for the replies. Some excellent insights.

    CO2 Retention

What are the biggest contributing factors to CO2 build up when breathing UW? Overexertion, skip breathing, fast breathing, anything else? I'm wondering because when I breathe underwater, I generally pause for 2-3 seconds on each inhale and exhale. Then when I inhale and exhale I make sure I...

When to take a drysuit class?

You don't need a course. Just read up on DS diving - net, books, there are a couple of DVDs you can buy. Then do some easy shallow dives in your new toy. Pool, pier, shallow OW are a good progression IMHO. Then be prepared to hate it, really hate it. Be prepared to regret buying the...
