    NAUI Advanced vs. PADI Advanced

To the OP... As someone who started out SSI for OWD, switched to PADI to get DM, switched to SSI to get instructor and then switched to NAUI via instructor crossover, I say go for it how you see fit. I got to see a lot about each agency and truly learned a lot from each one. I was able to...

Running low on air quickly - need help and guidance

Yoga helped me out a gret deal when I first started diving. It taught me breath control and relaxation techniques.

Do you really want a Groupon Training Experience?

To be fair though, I don't think that it is a groupon issue. I think it's more of an instructor issue. I'm willing to bet he teaches his non-groupon classes the same way. Regardless of the price a customer pays for a class, they are entitled to quality instruction.

The internet and PDCS: Where does your agency stand?

My personal feelings on eLearning are like this. I have never treated it like a replacement for classroom time but rather a different way to present the materials to students prior to class. I haven't done the NAUI eLearning yet but I completed SSI's version when it first came out because I...

    60 ft.

The 60' and 100' limits are recommended limits. As with many posts here we have learned that there is no SCUBA police, however there are some dive operations that won't let you go below 60' unless you are advanced and won't let you go below 100' unless you have deep certification. I wonder...

    SSI Divemaster?

I really hope I'm not sounding like a jerk, but that really isn't anything different than what has been stated before. The OP was asking about the Divemaster program, which has been pointed out is NOT a professional level and shouldn't be confused with DiveCon or any other agencies Divemaster...

    A decent slate with pencil???

This is probably the best slate I've used. It has a mechanical pencil and works great. Pencil mounting is easy and secure. Xit 404. Underwater and Scuba Diving products, Pacific Grove, CA

    SSI Divemaster?

The only thing I would add to this is a Divecon does more than just lead dives. They are allowed to teach skills in the pool under the supervision of an instructor and certain specialties like Equipment Techniques, Boat Diving, Photography & Digital Underwater Photography and Shark Diver...

    SSI Divemaster?

As I'm reading the 2009 standards, this is my take on it. Dive guides can only give underwater tours to certified divers, teach snorkeling only after they have passed the Snorkel Instructor module, and issue Snorkel Diver certifications (page 37 of the 2009 standards). They may NOT conduct...

    Balmorhea Questions

I would recommend booking at room at the park hotel. The water is right across the parking lot. They are the cheapest in the ares as well. There is a dive shop named 'A Funky Little Dive Shop' that is almost directly across the street. Darrel (I think that's his name) does air fills there...

Check out this Video - What do U See?

It looked to me like once she got the toy from the bottom she turned her self upright and was moving her fins to keep upright, resulting in a slight rise. Though i do have to agree, she may be a wee bit positive. But considering she doesn't have any weights, great job maintaining buoyancy.

    Who certifies Open Water divers?

Tammy answered SSI. It is the instructor who does the Open Water Check- out dives. Edit - To clarify, even in the event that there are several instructors involved in the open water portion, we normally split the group up between the us and the group we get is the one we certify.

Does a dive flag protect you? Think again.

Unfortunatly the Alpha flag is unknown to a lot of people here and the "American" diver down flag just makes people think you're a Van Halen fan.

    Instructor certification

Personally i don't think you are too old. In fact, good for you for wanting to do this. Are you looking at working locally or somewhere else? The LDS should be able to tell you what jobs are available.

    SSI Night Diving course

The purpose of doing the course (IMHO) is to not only learn the little ins and outs of night diving out of the book but to also dive it with a qualified instructor in order to gain a comfort level and experience in doing something out of the 'norm'. For example, someone who is interested in...
