Ok, how do you use this tank?

Just think of it as a portable version of the oxygen masks that pop down in a plane in case of cabin depressurization. I think it's kinda cool, though!

    Gas Consumption Rant

That's not cool.... In many of the OW textbooks, there is the following statement: "ANY DIVER CAN TURN THE DIVE AT ANY TIME FOR ANY REASON." I'd find another buddy. There is no way that he should say no to turning a dive just because he has a few more PSI left in his tank. It's like a...

    Force Fin Sticker shock

Haha....I'm laughing as I read this (no offense Doug, you've got some great info in here) Here's one thing I'll toss in here.... I have tried Force Fins, and I was not overly impressed. They made helicopter turns, frog kicks, and overall diving somewhat uncomfortable. I regularly use XSScuba...

My daughter's equip. should I service it??

That was not needed.....and rather rude Pegger, the choice is yours...would you rather service the regs, or are you confident to place your daughter's life on those regs? No offense

    Twins on a Balance BCD?

First, I want to go on the list to state that I am a newbie, and do not have the best knowledge in these things. I do know, however, that if you get into doubles, or "twins" as you call them, you'll probably get into stuff like a can light, or more advanced diving requiring the BP/W rig. I...

    Wing for single tank

I've been really pleased with my Agir Brokk Blackbird 36. You can get it from Salvo Supply or Scubatoys.com, and it's in the same ballpark as the oxycheck or halcyon wings

Worth replacing fin straps on fins?

You can either make your own, or order some spring ($2 a foot) from Mcmaster Karr and make your own, or you can just go back to a regular strap. Personally, I love my spring straps, and would NEVER go back to regular rubber straps

DIY - Underwater Housing Lens Cover

Ok, that's good to hear. Sorry to confuse you. I just didn't know if the lens rim was metal or not.

What should I expect to pay?

Maui...you can live there in a nice place for a fairly good price. If you don't mind cooking for yourself I know of a REALLY nice place that goes for $65 a night.

DIY - Underwater Housing Lens Cover

looks good....a bit messy, but it looks good. Not to sound like a know-it-all, but keep in mind that if there's any metal underneath that cover while it's underwater, it can corrode, leaving you with a problem

Backplate compared to Rear Inflate BC ?

Do not fear :D What he means by the statement "over my lungs" is that the weight of the backplate is displaced over the back. Aluminum backplates are 2 lbs negative while SS backplates are 6 lbs negative. So...you take more weight off your belt, but you also are not having the weight in a...

What do you call the 1 ft metal pokers divers carry?

This is me (yah I know I'm weird) but at home they call them "not getting caught by the octopus thingies"!

    Your max depth!

To date, my max depth has been 89 FSW.... What am I comfortable to go to??? As deep as I am trained to go. If I'm OW, it'd be 100, maybe 110. If I were Trimix, it would be a lot deeper. It all depends on the training for me
