Another Thing that bugs me about dive shops

Agreed, but I just bought at LeisurePro and if it didn't fit, I could return. Again, I would have been willing to pay un-discounted MSRP for the mask at my LDS. But not about 50% over MSRP.

Another Thing that bugs me about dive shops

I would be happy to patronize my LDS for most of my gear, but on their masks, not only do they charge above MSRP, but they charge WAAAY above. Their price on a mask that fit me was $60. At LeisurePro is was $24. I think they are wonderful people, and I would actually be willing to often pay...

I Need check out dives in Cancun...

Hi. I'm going with Ben at Mayan Aqua Dive for the exact same thing at the end of Feb. Don't take my slots! He comes very highly recommended on this board. mayanaquadive.com. I leave Feb 19th, and hope to start my first dives on the 20th, the second set on the 22nd, and then I'm going to try to...

    Mask Clearing

I had the mask flood panic a few days ago in my pool training. I think it was the freaky sight of water filling the mask. What I did to get through each of the skills...a small amount of water, a full mask, and removal, was simply close my eyes, so I could concentrate on only breathing with my...

Extremely new, even to the idea of Diving....

I was so worried about my test, because I NEVER swim laps, and spend little time in the pool, but I just did the whole distance on my back. It was super easy and relaxing. As a matter of fact, I was faster than most of the people in my class, taking it completely easy just doing a simple...

Extremely new, even to the idea of Diving....

I was going to post that exact same thing last night, DivingPrincess. I just did my swim test, and the "tread" was ridiculously easy, because I simply floated on my back, keeping it arched with my lungs full. A few small paddles with my feet and hands were all I needed to float, and when I felt...

    Mask for large noses???

I received the Deep See Omni today. It's less than $25 at LeisurePro and fits like a charm. The nose pocket is really soft, so even if it rides up, it's frameless, and still feels okay. Plus, I have a narrow face, and it fits perfectly.

    Bicycle Kick

Makes very much sense. And thanks for your dive journal...made it easier for me to feel okay about being a newb. BTW...My daughter is getting ready to ride competitively. I assume there will be at least a leased horse in our future. ;-)

    Bicycle Kick

Well, it's funny...trying out the frog kick movement out of water is WAAAY more natural than any flutter kick would be. I'm going to try this (even with my splits) in the pool on Sunday and see how I get on. I don't think it will be hard for me to develop this kick compared to a "good" flutter...

PS...I really appreciate how helpful SBers can be.

    Bicycle Kick

And please tell me that frog kicking is possible with these dang splits! Seriously, I wish I would have thought of that sooner, but unfortunately, you MUST buy mask fins and snorkel before you even begin. I think overall, the frog would seem to be easier for me based on what I feel I already can...

    Mask for large noses???

I have the same problem, and yesterday I tried the Deep See Omni 4 window mask. It's now discontinued, but it worked well for me. I also have a narrow face, and the Tusa Liberator was killing me. I just ordered the Omni 2 (a current model) for a whopping $25, and I'll get it tomorrow. It seems...

    Bicycle Kick

What's interesting about these vids is the "modified flutter" which simply looks like a bicycle kick with the bottom of the kick ending flat. The frog is kind of hard to see. I'm assuming one needs to turn ones feet so the bottoms point towards each other?

    Bicycle Kick

Thanks. I appreciate that. If anyone has any links to vids, I'd appreciate it. I have been doing some Google searching for some, but haven't seen a good source yet. It is definitely a new feeling and new grouping of physical skills.

    Bicycle Kick

Another stupid question. Is the bicycle kick a totally useless kick, and do any fins actually work with it? My kicks suck, and I'm working on the flutter, but my splits work not at all with a bicycle. I want to make sure I'm a good "underwater citizen," maintaining buoyancy and not silting the...

Can I join the ranks of the Dork Divers?

Can I join the ranks of the Dork Divers? I've read your rules, and I agree to abide by them fully. Plus, I imagine I'm probably considered a dork by at least someone.

    Mask for VERY narrow face

I may go for this mask, but my problem is with my current cheap mask...Tusa Liberator, the bottom of my nose hits the bottom of the nose pocket. If I order from a place like LeisurePro, I assume we can return if it doesn't work?

Deep See Omni 4 Window Mask

I found a mask that seems to work VERY well for me...the Deep See Omni 4. I have a narrow face, and a longer nose, so many masks that fit my narrower face, my nose bumps against the bottom of the nose pocket, as is doing with my current Tusa Liberator. I dove with it today in the pool, and it...

To split or not to split

Anyone have a take on ForceFins? I'm worried I screwed up purchasing Tusa XPerts. Because I'm a newbie, I figured my kicking would suck, and the splits would help, but now, given that I will probably be encountering some currents, I'm hoping I didn't choose wrong. Given my lack of experience, at...
