Galapagos Scuba Diving Fatality - February 12, 2010 - Eloise Gale

Well divedeepr, since you have slinked out of posting on this thread, I hope you learned some things. You still owe an apology for the things you said about NAUI and PADI, but this is the internet and I can't force you to.

Galapagos Scuba Diving Fatality - February 12, 2010 - Eloise Gale

I see, so what do you call this? If you were to say that about divers in general, I would agree with you. For you to pick on people certified in one place isn't right. Maybe you should make some quarry dives and then see if you still agree with your statement. People get certified in resorts...

Galapagos Scuba Diving Fatality - February 12, 2010 - Eloise Gale

PADI, NAUI and all of the rest of the alphabet soup certify people in the same places. It doesn't (and never did) matter whether it's a lake, quarry, ocean or a cow pond as long as certain criteria is met. Dive only in the ocean, if you want. But to say "Divers leave the quarry thinking they...

Galapagos Scuba Diving Fatality - February 12, 2010 - Eloise Gale

First you say this, which is not at all accurate. Then you say this, which would need to be addressed, if it weren't so long ago. The Galapagos isn't for wimp divers and when diving there, people need to be self reliant. The more varied experiences you have, the better your trip will be. With...

Dive tables take a back seat in SSI training

Well, the Navy Dive table (for one) has pressure groups for decompression diving and if you look at my last post, you'll see that will work even though the diver is in decompression. S/he is off-gassing as the ascent is made and the new depth is reached. Decompression tables and computers...

Dive tables take a back seat in SSI training

You just don’t know what you don’t know. No matter which set of tables you use, you can do a multilevel dive with them. Let’s take a dive below 80 feet for 20 minutes. Depending on which table you use, you come out with a pressure group. That pressure group is applicable for all depths on...

    PADI vs NAUI

The opperative word here is SATISFACTORILY. To answer your question, no prudent Instructor (from any agency) would pass someone who was unsafe to themselves or others. I once had an Instructor finish the last dive and tell the students on our boat they were certified, so they could go out and...

Uncool PADI - as if we didn't know

I agree. One of the best things about PADI, is the upbeat attitude. If you want doom and gloom, go elsewhere.

Galapagos Scuba Diving Fatality - February 12, 2010 - Eloise Gale

It may have been exacerbated by hyperventillation. Those kind of currents occur in lots of places, like Palau & Costa Rica. Buddy separations happen in those instances. I've dove the Galapagos on the Aggressor and while challenging currents are prevalent, the pelagics make the trip well worth...

Dive tables take a back seat in SSI training

We don't charge a rental fee on equipment. In the CW the most you can get a computer to do is to turn on. That makes sense, as long as the students are shown how to fill out the log. Many of them don't understand it's importance and forget how to use the log in way too short a period of time...

Are you saying that students don't need computers for their OW dives?

    Padi online

I think I would prefer to have a book in my grubby paw. That way, I can reference it any time I want to. I could also use the $$ for other classes or equipment.

    Padi online

I concur. While I think the online courses might benefit a resort (because you do the study time in advance), the money you spend on it at home can be better spent on equipment.

PADI Divemaster vs TDI Extended Range

With DSAT, if you omit decompression from deeper than 20 feet, return to the first stop depth as quickly as possible (ideally less than five minutes) and decompress according to schedule up to and including the 40 foot stop. Extend the 30 foot stop and all shallower stops by 1.5 times their...

Disturbing 'advice' from DAN in Alert Diver

The information below comes from the Vytec Owners manual. It is the RGBM model. "The surface interval must be at least 5 minutes for a dive to be considered a repetitive dive. Otherwise, it is considered a continuation of the same dive. The dive number will not change and the dive time will...

I almost DIED in Grand Cayman!

This is an incredibly kind offer and if I were in your shoes, I'd take him up on it, as soon as possible. He'll be straight with you and if you're a Nervous Nellie give you support, or let you go on with life after diving. If I may be so bold as to say, the diver ultimately makes the decision...

    Asthma and diving

Sure, until you become overexerted swimming against a current at depth and have an attack. Just make sure you tell the Divemaster that you have active asthma. It's not fair to anyone on the boat otherwise.
