Most of us develop a system that works for the specific sites. I think the best advice is to go and watch how other divers are doing things at the sites you dive. Their local knowledge and experience can save you a lot of hassle.
I am not going to repeat the good advice already posted here...
Different countries have different rules and protocols so I am not sure how valid my insights will be here.
When we were trained on how to function in a crime scene we were told anything we used in providing care prior to determination of death became part of the evidence if it was put down...

We have DIN in Australia. We travel with an adapter. We have HP DIN valves with inserts so our friends who come here to dive wish us from NA can use our tanks easily. We have never had any problems with the Adapters.
