I personally tend to pump it up the night before my first dive when I travel long distances just to make sure it all made it safely and is still working properly. After that I will just do it in the morning when getting ready or between dives if changing lenses.
Traffic in Jakarta can be absolutely insane so i don't think you will have much time to do anything. I would recommend getting a room at Ayana (which is at the International/Garuda domestic terminal 3)or the Jakarta airport hotel in Terminal 2. Rest and get ready for the red eye since it can...
If you are talking this April my answer is ask someone who lives/works there when you get closer. We took 4 back to back trips there this last year and the temps were all over the place. We did a back to back over the holidays and it was warmish in the south on the first trip and freezing on...
Thank you for the report!! Bummer about the viz... it doesn't show in your pics. Macro looked fun so that is a bonus! Bummer about the conservative dive profiles, It is always a struggle when diving with new ops so hopefully if will be better if you go back.
Well looking at the itinerary I would say the second trip because it has more days in Komodo. The first only has 4 diving days in Komodo and Komodo deserves way more than that. Damai is my first pic but it can be pricey, the Pindito is really good as well. There are a bunch of nice boats in...
@Kendall Raine Thermulation and yes it was a short in the heating element. It burned a whole right through the vest and my rashguard. I have also seen people get minor burns that last a day or two from having it on for the tender ride back to the boat. It appears in the pattern of the heating...
They work great until they don't (I got a pretty good burn on my back from a malfunction while diving wet). I can't imagine what it would have been like if I was in a dry suit at depth. That being said if it was a matter of not being freezing cold I would wear one! I have lots of friends with...
Water temps were really off/strange in Komodo as well. It was so confusing trying to figure out where we wanted to go... It was cold in the south and warm in the north. Sangeang was like a bath tub.
I can guarantee that you will not be putting gloves on in a down current if its strong enough to have you holding on to a wall. You will be doing everything you can to keep your head in the perfect spot as to not have the current rip off your mask. Looking down at your hands or a pocket would...
@Dan every time I have been on the Damai they tell you in the briefing that they won't come knock on your door to wake you up unless you tell them to. ex. I don't want to miss a dive so wake me up! So that might be why they didn't wake him or knock on the door.
Great report...
Oooh I can't wait to hear what you think. I had a friend tell me I needed to go there as well. She loved it! We are headed to Komodo for xmas and new years.
@Dan I have been in May and it was nice! If the OP info is correct then they have 0-24 dives and I personally don't think that is enough dives to properly dive Alor to appreciate it, especially if you aren't interested in Muck/Critter diving. A Bali - Komodo itinerary would be easier and more...
There can always be currents with down, up, or straight. Indonesia is known for its currents which bring nutrients and allow for the biodiversity you see when you are there. The important thing to do is listen to the dive briefing and follow your guide! I have been in a few crazy down currents...
I came to say the same thing... frequent traveler to Indo and I have never used an atm. Crisp newish 100's get you the best rate... super fast and simple exchange. You don't really need that much cash to survive in Indo! And I definitely don't hold my nose in the shower! Are you being...
Raja will be warm so a 3 mil should be fine, but depending on where you dive in Bali you can get pretty cold temps so it depends on where you plan on diving.
Highly recommend the itinerary, it is great! Assuming deep south is Horseshoe Bay (Rinca) You don't have the crowds and the south is warm with good viz that time of year. Can't tell you anything about the boat though.. sorry.
Even with a Telkomsel card you will have limited connection in Raja Ampat. There are a couple anchorages that have some signal but it goes in and out and sometimes only enough for WhatsApp messages to go out. Every time I go back it gets better but still only a few places. You might want to...
