    Sharm El Sheikh "local dives"

Yeah it is just a rip off, and to be frank quite uneccessary and a waste of a day. Some local reefs arn't actually too bad and it's often told that even whale sharks have been spotted at these sites, but I think this is an extremely rare occurance if it happens at all. Ok so you need a little...

    Sharm Trip Report 28th July

Hi all. Ok so as promised here is my trip report for Sharm for the 21st-28th July - CRAP! Ok so I keep hearing stories that Sharm has had a lot of big stuff in the area this year, but I didn't see didley squat. Aside from hundreds of divers, through all their bubbles we saw one medium sized...

    Gear cheaper in Sharm?

Hmm thanks, I did wonder if that was the case. I might scouta few shops here in the UK then. Ahh - thanks you found the website for Beyond Limits - I went there a few years ago but couldn't remember the name of it. Cheers.

Need advice - Get OW cert now or wait?

Absolutely get it done and enjoy it! Once your licensed, it doesn't matter if you don't dive for a while, you can 'refresh' later with an instructor if you need to. Once you have your license the 'hard' bit's done and you're free! As for PADI (can't comment on others) - yes, the videos are...

    Gear cheaper in Sharm?

Hi, Just wondering if equipment etc is cheaper to buy out there than the UK? I'm not expecting a great deal of choice (but perhaps there is), mostly just smaller stuff - mainly a dive knife (unless there are any real good offers on). I prefer to see things in person rather than online where...

19 Dead, Hundreds Adrift in Philippines Typhoon

Here's some of my thoughts anyway for anyone who has the time;) Of course getting survivors off as soon as you can is best if the conditions allow. Sure, I'm no expert and can't say whether it's unwise to surface the boat before removal of passengers, but to me it seems it might be easier -...

19 Dead, Hundreds Adrift in Philippines Typhoon

hmm, yeah, not 'fertiliser' - my bad (I'd never make a good lawyer! thank goodness!!) As for a refloat, no indeed, I understand the first night may be difficult (as you'd have to wait for the minister to wake up before he can sign the paper to allow it ;)), but seriously - there would need to...

    Self made diving career

Yeah - all good advice above. I have to say that the job or more like 'the position' you're after doesn't exist. For commercial diving you'll have to specialise in a one or a couple of areas, yes, welding is a big one and most useful - so do a course in that first perhaps. I did the...

19 Dead, Hundreds Adrift in Philippines Typhoon

Great - good to know that once again money has been put first over people's lives!! (damn lawyers) now then, if it had been refloated the first night/day as I suggested I wonder if there may have been more alive today? I don't know, but I hope there will be a report done to find out if any...

Fins positive or negative or neutral

...er, that's a joke right? or do you have fins that are so buoyant that you 'hang' upside down during your dives? lol - in anycase and for others - practise your buoyancy skills to avoid disturbing the bottom! ;) As for loosing fins. I don't know, perhaps I shouldn't take the pish, but it's...

    Phuket in July

Take your surf board dude - surf's up! ; (either that or a sick bag for the boat trips). Would be better if you could hold on a couple of months, but of course once your under it's not so bad in deeper water, or away form the mainland such as over by Phi Phi.

    Titanium or Steel

Understandable yes, non titanium for land I agree - but the point being we're in water (salty most of the time!), and rust (at least for me) is too much of an issue to deal with - constantly cleaning and coating with oil/grease etc - and with all that grease it kinda looks disgusting anyway...

Wow that's awesome. Hope I find something one day! ;) Even if you were alllowed to keep such a thing, it would be so difficult to bring yourself to sell it.

Sinai Divers house reef in Sharm

Camel Camel Camel! haha, ok so I don't have any direct diving experience with anyone else in Sharm, heard Sinai are good too though. I dived with Camel in 06 and they were such a nice bunch of people! Proffesional and efficient. I toured quite a lot of outfits before picking them first time...

19 Dead, Hundreds Adrift in Philippines Typhoon

Again, my knowledge of ferries is minimal. My mind is just mostly going on documentaries of designs of warships etc, but then they are designed more for taking 'hits'. Likewise some tankers have double hulls, and the storage of fuel/cargo etc is compartmentalised into many smaller holding tanks...

19 Dead, Hundreds Adrift in Philippines Typhoon

Thanks for the updates Dandy (been trying to filter through accurate reports myself - not easily I might add). It's been a long time for them now though! I've not had much 'experience' with ship tradgedies, but anyone know how long you can survive in a room of air, because a scuba tank has a...

'Big stuff' in Sharm - July 21st?

Hi, thanks and welcome aboard! Yeah, I'm well aware nothing can be 'guaranteed', if I don't see anything, then that's just tough luck - I'm cool with that. But what would annoy me, would be going there and not even having much of a chance (would be more annoyed at myself) - so this year I think...

    Wet suit worries (girl problem)

:rofl3: yeah, I hear that! lol. (I've never made it a habit of hanging around the lingerie dept, and I never plan to ha). As for the post being spam (it could be), but it's a bit easier to get what you need on google images no? I'll give the benefit of the doubt.
