If you are in the Viking for PSD work, try to avoid ankle weights. You work close to the bottom and you'll want to keep your fins out of the mud less it ruins what little viz you have. Try to track down some 'finkeepers' at a dive shop. They are rubber "Y" shaped stirrups that fit around your...
1- Wireless, through water comms system (good)
2- Hard wire Comm rope (better)
3- Surface Supplied Air Diving Manifold c/w umbilicals. (best)
Seriously, I don't know of any piece of equipment that would allow a topside supervisor to monitor PSI of a free swimming diver. Having said that...
If you are going to use one, check "Global Manufacturing", they have some locking quick disconnects with a small nub and a corresponding dent that have to be line up to take it apart. Greatly reduces the risk of it 'popping off'
Define "very high failure rate"
We've had over 50,000 dives using omni-swivels in the last 10+ years and have had a total of two documented failures, both of which were determined upon investigation to be operator error. We've since taken the 'operator' out of the equation because you can't...
Send me a PM with an email address and I can send you some pics. A couple of our guys designed, tested, revamped and patented a method to attach the block to a harness but still allow you to separate your regs from the BC for storage.
Just to set the record straight, I did not 'bash the gear company" or attempt to "slander a reputable company". I merely asked if they were looking at a recall. I know the company, used some of their gear at one time and know if they had twelve units tested and failed they would look at why...
Thanks Blades,
Is the BC manufacturer looking at a recall? From the description I know what kind it sounds like but this type of info needs to fanout to all teams.
So if I am picturing this correctly, you have your main breathing gas with an octopus plus a separate, redundant pony bottle with it's own regs?
You already have an octopus, the fact that it is attached to its own first stage and own tank is just a bonus. Think about it, the octopus came...
Right now I'd spend lots of time diving.., getting yourself as much experience as you can. By all means get your AOW, Nitrox and Rescue too. We won't even consider anyone with less than 25 hours of bottom time, and the more the better.
As far as your comment...

They are a great mask..., those who 'have problems' with them just are not using them properly. To respond to a few of your comments...,
The screws in the nose block are a sometime aftermarket add-on by users to prevent the nose block from falling out. You can back them off to move the block...
Have two H160 DPVs. The headlight has quit on one of them. When I try the cover/light on the second DPV it works fine so it appears to be something in the unit. I checked the in-line fuse and it is okay. Is there anything an owner can easily check?
Only used dogs twice, both times were VICs in shorts and T-shirts,
both times were after three or four days,
both times, dismal failures.
I had asked the two dog handlers your same questions, they didn't really have a solid...
