    Baltimore/DC Dive Show

Great show. Stopped by the SB booth and said hi to mselenaous. Liked the talk given by Dan Orr from DAN. Photography lecture Ty Sawyer delivered was informative, but way out of my league... Something about a histogram. I Wish there had been more manufacturers/gear sellers there with some new...

    Opinions on booking Nassau ahead?

Thanks for the input y'all. I just got back a few days ago and am happy to report that we had a solid week of good weather and good visibility on New Providence. We ended up doing two days of diving with Stuart Cove's and, aside from one diver stupidity incident, were generally pleased with the...

    Opinions on booking Nassau ahead?

My brother, dad and I are taking a 9 day trip down to Nassau in a couple weeks. I'm worried about weather conditions and would prefer to book closer to our arrival date. I know hurricane season is upon us and I'm woried about getting blown out. Is it feasable to wait until we get down there to...

Dive Report - Ocean City - April 3

Those are some very cool pictures. I've never seen seals in the OC area either, though we have had our share of stranger marine mammal incidents. I got to see the manatee at 22nd street docks a few years back. Anyone know what happened to that big guy?

Visual communication device in corner of mask?

I think there are definite applications for this in-mask system for larger groups of divers. Each cattle boat can have a frequency for each individual DM, the DM can signal their cohort, and the problem of Bob's noisy night dives can be largely avoided.

Ocean City Wreck Diving with Divers Den

Well, good luck to you. I'll have to give your boat a try once the water warms up. Dittos on a proper ladder. Will you be catering more to to the tech crowd or us lowly single tank types ;) ?

how much do shops make on us???

Several shops in my area have folded, including two that were "right on the water" There are plenty of wrecks out there to dive on, fish to look at, and a group of people who do those things, but the only surviving LDS is thirty miles inland and is an adjunct to a small engine repair shop. I...

Trip Report - PR - Palmas Del Mar

Toadie, would you mind giving your impression of the operator? Any red flags from the crew, DMs, or captain? Was the sea ventures boat set up well in terms of safety equipment, space for people and gear, quality briefing/debriefing and general good vibes? I was thinking of taking a few...

SCUBA Diving, Urban Legends and Mythbusters

Upon getting wet, your snorkel will get caught in a rope, fishing line, old net, anchor line, bra strap, or commercial long line, causing you to be dragged miles out to sea where it will somehow become wrapped in kelp --forcing you to take off your mask to untagle everything --then you will die.

    Temporary Insanity

Apparently the crane operator had one too many beers before going to work that morning. Poor guys on the stern are having worst day ever.

    Temporary Insanity

I remember when that boat was in the paper. Oh how we were laughing. This one is a local classic: https://www.piersystem.com/go/doc/651/127759/ The truly sad part is that this is the SECOND time this boat has hit something and sank.

    Galapagos in 1 week !!!

Pangas are tough RIBs that shouldn't have trouble with whatever gear you bring as long as you can haul it a up foot and a half over the side. Some have big cargo netting to grab on as well. No worries on that score.

Scuba club in a public school

From your profile I see you're not a teacher, but a student. No worries, but that adds a layer of complication to things. It should still be doable. If I were you I'd first find somewhere to dive that is easily reached after school and some means of getting everyone there. Do you already have...

    Shark Week on Discovery

As I understand it, the "guts" you see is a swim bladder found in most bony fish which contains air and expands when rapidly changing ambient pressure (via fishing) occurs. Sharks have no swim bladder, (which is why most sink when they stop swimming). Instead they use their livers for buoyancy...
